Sandy701's Journal, 14 Apr 12

Walked 3.1 miles this morning with DH and doggies along for 2.3 miles of it. Glorious sunshine, nice breeze, temperature about 70....all in all a great start to the day.

Walked the .7-mile loop late yesterday. Today will be my LAST day doing that! While it didn't nudge my weight downward, I did prove to myself that it's truly no big deal to fit in just 10 minutes of something every day. By the end of the week, you can say you did an HOUR, or even more, of exercise....just doing that little bit each day. But, for me, on top of the AM walking, well, all it did was make me hungry and tired for the next day's walking PLUS it did nothing for weight loss.

This week's "Tweak of the Week" will be a major one. DH and I discussed it over breakfast and he's committed to doing it with me....although we both are only committing to it for 1 week...NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS & NO SUGAR ALCOHOLS!

This is going to be extremely hard for both of us. While Induction rules say to limit sweeteners to only 3, I never did that....and it seemed to not be an issue for me at all. Even in OWL, no big issues arose....my weight loss kept humming along, not at a break-neck pace, but at a slower, moderate pace. So, I figured I could always adjust if I needed to.....and then I never needed to.....until now.

Well, it's time to try this adjustment. DH and I talked through what's OFF the menu this week and we took some time to go back and read some labels.

A partial list of what's off-limits this week include: Atkins bars (and shakes), s/f candies, s/f breath mints, Nutra-Sweet and Truvia (for iced tea and other uses), diet soda (BIG groan!), reduced sugar ketchup (it has sucralose in it), s/f Jello, s/f puddings, pressurized whipping cream, s/f pancake syrup, and powdered whey protein (has sucralose). DH uses some of the above more than I do, but it's a partial listing of some of the "culprits" we have on hand currently.

We begin this adjustment with tomorrow morning's breakfast (had to squeeze in my pancakes this AM). This is going to be rough....not happy about it, but if one is testing a theory, it's best to cut the sweeteners down to zero rather than just cutting back a bit.

Please understand if my journal gets a bit grumpy this week....LOL!!

EDIT: Walked the .7-mile loop for the last time as a "later PM exercise" today. Stick a fork in me....I'm SO done with that!

Sandy, I hope this works for you. I'm betting it will, especially if you increase your water intake as well. Its nice to have a partner along side you. My DH is 6'3 and just as slim as the day we married.

I stopped putting sweetener in my coffee - stopped cold turkey the day after Christmas. I had already given up diet soda 2 years ago. Now if I can do this (the weak willed soul that I am), so can you!

Lalaith...my DH is the same height! I'll have to increase my water intake, as it's just about the only thing I'll be "allowed!" (Shaking head) Why, oh why did I EVER say I'd do this....

Buffy, I never add sweetener to my coffee, so that's not a problem. It's all those FOODS that have the sweeteners in them!!! I'll need some of your "diet soda" mojo, please.

Just go on line and read all the bad stuff (bladder cancer, etc.). Mojo will follow.

Well Sandy..you can do most anything for a week...as long as it doesn't bother you health wise...Drinking water is a very good way to flush things out..I found that out after a week of not drinking at least 4-16 oz. bottles a day...Can't drink diet soda as it has aspertame in it..Gives me a headache..also messed up my eyes..Good luck with your non sweetened foods..:O)

Let's hope so, Buffy, let's hope so.

Bren, that's what DH and I figured....we can tough it out for a week and then see what comes of it. Of course today I've been doing what any good "dieter" does....drinking and eating anything with the sweeteners in them because I won't have any beginning tomorrow! LOL!!

WOW I wish you both so muck luck, and you sound so possitive that you will. Wish I could cut down sweetners, I take 3 to 4 but it is a huge cup of coffee. looking at BuffyBears, comment of bladder cancer, will help me cut down, Good wish's on the week, drink plenty water, will keep bad moods away..

Thanks for the good wishes, Carmel. Today, Day One, is the roughest. Tomorrow will actually be easier as DH will be having eye surgery, so I'll be busy running around or waiting around in the hospital. Either way, it should help take my mind off the foods with sweeteners.
