I've Been struggling with food sensitivities for many years. After going to various specialists and hearing nothing so far that has helped, I've decided to go on an "elimination" diet to try and find out what foods are bothering me and giving me symptoms which have been increasing over the years. I'm not allergic to anything specific according to the allergist. In fact, allergy tests which used to show positive have actually become negative. However, Doctors can't seem to figure out why I get certain symptoms that include but not limited to bloating. I've decided to try this eating plan based on the book by JJVirgin: For 3 weeks, I'm to eliminate gluten, dairy, eggs, sugar, corn, soy and peanuts from my diet and then reintroduce these food items one at a time. The intention is not to loose weight per se, (although it is a natural result of this eating plan), but to get rid of common potential allergens and foods that might be responsible for the symptoms and slowly reintroduce them and see how I react. I've actually started to drink "vegan" protein drinks as awful as they taste. I'm hoping the taste grows on me. It is incredibly hard to take these common food items out of the diet, but I'm hoping it gets easier as I go along. I'm hoping to get rid of some of these incredibly frustrating and annoying symptoms. I hope this works. I might even loose some weight! LOL! Actually, I'm sure I will loose weight. So FS, I'm back again. I may need the support of all you great people out there. Any suggestions welcome as I'm only on DAY 2.

Hi Edgw - so very nice to have you back. I took a long leave of absence too a while back and it is so nice to have the support of the great people on FS. About your food sensitivity - may I suggest a book called "Grain Brain" It's all about what has happened to our food in the last several decades - particularly the grain industry and GMO foods. The list of GMO foods now includes wheat, soy and corn - and more, but these now are totally NOT what mother nature intended. I eliminated wheat, sugar and dairy 100% for one month - felt fabulous and noticed I slept better. I started the month with a 3 day dull headache (withdrawal) and then all was well. I have since deviated periodically, but I can always tell when I've had wheat an perhaps just too many carbs. I am OK with the dairy, but know many people who are not. I now use almond milk in my coffee with a little coconut oil whisked in. Anyway - good luck with the experiment and I'm curious to know your results.
