StomachMonkeys's Journal, 22 Feb 24

Don’t let your scale lie to you about whether or not you are making progress! I bought these jeans in September. They were a tad snug at the time. Today I am 11 lbs heavier then when I first put them on, and they have quite a bit more space, despite the numbers on the scale. Use progress pics and measurements ! Don’t rely on the scale alone. It is a terrible metric by itself.

I just had this Eureka moment a few days ago when I put my bra on and realized it was too big. my boobs were floating in it! 😆 I have gone from a 38D to 36C and my jeans are sagging.

The experiment?

I wish the app had options for other metrics as the goal rather than just “mass”. I’ve seen many people get frustrated and go off the rails, or even quit they thought they weren’t making progress. In fact, I’ve been that person in the past. Nowadays, my goals have a lot more to do with body composition than body weight. Since I’ve made that switch, the process, while still frustrating at times, is much better, and much more sustainable. At least for me, anyway. Don’t worry about what people think is the best protocol. Find what is most sustainable for you and your lifestyle! Best of luck and success to all of you and your goals! Never give up! You’ve got this.

Just paste stats into your journal on a regular basis. If that’s too personal, a lot of phones have apps built in that do the same thing.

I track measurements, weight and calories in a spreadsheet. It does the job. I just think it might be good for people to have other options within the app. Especially those that are just starting out on their “journey”. The scale can be a big demotivator for some when it doesn’t move as expected. 😎

Do t know if I agree with all that but body measurements and scale combined are pretty hard to deny. Right on! 💪

Out of curiosity, what is is you don't agree with? I see people all the time on various platforms either taking unhealthy measures or quitting and regressing when they don't see the scale moving. Often times, had these people employed an alternative metric to quantify progress, they might be in a better place. I have been in that situation myself in the past. The internet is full of people asking why they are not making progress when they clearly have made fat loss gains. But that doesn't necessarily show up on a scale. That is the point I was trying to make. But I'd be interested to hear your opinion too.

Congratulations on your victories! You’re obviously focused on what is working 💪. Just saying pant sizes, “a tad bit”, and “not quite as snug” are somewhat fuzzy for me. ✌️

The pants were originally 1980s hair metal tight. Now they are 1990s grunge loose if that helps clarify. Like Axl Rose vs Kurt Cobain 😜
