Weight not going in the right direction 😐 I actually ate fewer calories yesterday, but did eat 3 actual meals. And dessert....I made sandwiches for lunch trying to get back in Hubby's good graces. He got upset with me when I told him my son, DIL & granddaughter are spending the night after our family Christmas gathering at our house. Past behavior by my DIL has not made her his favorite person. She & I get along OK in small doses....she seems to be making the attempt to be nicer. Since my daughter is supposed to be here for a few days, she will be in our guest room. We have a separate guest house that Hubby has set up as an office, but we use it for guests when needed. Problem is we are currently storing 8 chairs for my daughter (who lives in Texas) in there. She had planned to take them home before now, but finances/ circumstances have prevented that. The other issue is Hubby was trying to plan what to do with our 2 dogs during the Christmas party, as they are both older & could get stessed out with crowds. He suggested putting them in the guest house during the party....that's when I told him about the kids spending the night. Not my best timing 🙄

This time of year already causes friction between us. I'm all about the decorating, family get togethers....making a big deal out of the season. Him....not so much. He accommodates me & I try not to push his limits. For example, he is adamant the Christmas season begins December 1st....not a day before. I spent yesterday packing up the Fall decor. I have bought some new decorations & discreetly played around with arranging some of it. As long as it's not blatant...in your face, he doesn't say anything.

Don't get me wrong...he's not an ogre....just a bit of a Grinch. He'll get in the spirit of things at a party & likes to buy me gifts. Once I get the house decorated, he seems to enjoy sitting in the living room with twinkling lights & a fire in the fireplace. After 30+ years we make it work...but not always without a few cross words.

Long winded explanation as to why I ate a sandwich yesterday 😏

I certainly don't envy the position that your are in. It sounds like you have learned to navigate the waters well though. I was in a similar position for years and don't miss it.

That's too bad you have to wait until December 1st considering how much you like to decorate! So many of my neighbors put up their outside lights on Friday. I keep Bobby and the cats in the master bedroom when I have company. Cats get scared and Bobby thinks everyone comes over to see him. Would that work at your house? Are the chairs your daughter left at your house kitchen chairs? Could they go somewhere else, like the garage or other rooms in your house? When I went to visit my niece and someone was already in the guest room I stayed at a nearby hotel. It was so nice I'll just stay there for most of my visits

So how about a new shed where you can store the chairs and he can hide out a bit with the dogs? A little out there, but could work depending.

HaHa Kat! I'm not trying to get rid of Hubby....just a quiet spot for the dogs to hang out while the house is full. We do already have a garden shed for storage, but he probably wouldn't enjoy hanging out there. Once everyone arrives on the day of the party he will be fine. He told me today, that what upset him was he felt I'd made decisions on my own without talking it over with him. Right or wrong, I knew what his reaction would be & I put off telling him. I need to just bite the bullet & tell him stuff, even when I know he won't be happy about it.

Fritzy, we do usually put the dogs in our bedroom if we plan to let them out after a little while. The problem is Hubby doesn't want them underfoot, so they'd need to stay for several hours. Teddy is blind & has started getting disoriented as he gets older. Lucy gets seperation anxiety if we're home & she can hear us she'll bark. Our house is not large, so we really don't have a room to put the chairs inside. We do have a storage area under the house....kind of a small basement and the shed. We didn't put them there before because of weather & temperature fluctuations. Our housecis the perfect size for the 2 of us but not as great for lots of people.

We have paid for a hotel room for the kids before when we had a full house (my daughter's whole family). It really shouldn't be a major issue, just some prior preparation. It's just I know Hubby isn't thrilled when my son & his family stay over. They have proven to be a big pain in the butt in the past, but like I said my DIL seems to have mellowed some. She misbehaved so badly on one of our girls beach trips she got herself permanently disinvited 😬

Enjoy your holidays SherryeB but I love 💚💚💚the Grinch💚💚💚and am so glad my wife isn‘t a season decorator. She saw the electric bill our first year in the house 1992 and said "No more outside lights!!“. I did not argue. 😆

SK, the only lights I do outside are our front porch....around the door & around the front of the porch. It's not a large area. Our house is pretty far off the road so decorations would be hard to see. When we first moved into our house we put lights on the crepe myrtles lining one side of the driveway. One year I didn't get the lights off til it was warm weather. I stopped doing it at some point. The crepes are now huge trees....I couldn't put lights on them if I wanted to! I do put a lighted garland on the portion of the back deck rail outside our kitchen window. I love seeing the twinkling lights from the kitchen. I do however decorate a lot inside. I like the Grinch, too. That's why I said Hubby was more like him 😊
