annamommy's Journal, 01 Sep 23

It actually went down. Apparently I'm really bad about logging my weight. I don't do it often because I don't want my children, especially my 11 year old daughter, becoming scale obsessed because they see mommy weighing herself all the time. I want to encourage them to love themselves and their bodies. To understand that everyone's body looks different and it's about taking care of ourselves and fueling ourselves to be strong and healthy and not to be appealing to the world's standards.

This wasn't what I originally planned to post about this morning when I did my weigh in, but apparently what I needed to.

I love you all so very much. I pray the Lord blesses and keeps you and makes His face shine upon you today and always. I pray you all know how very much you are wanted and needed and loved. That you remember you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You have a purpose and you are a gift and a blessing.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. - James 1:17

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. - Numbers 6:24-26

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well”
- Psalm 139:13-14

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
- Ephesians 2:10

that's a very real fear ... my son is always asking about me weighing my food and how we eat compared to other people in our family and our friends or mentiong things about not eating too much of things so he doesn't get fat ughh its rough trying to explain some of this stuff that he is picking up on and asking questions about 🤦‍♂️

otb, right?! I grew up in a very toxic and abusive environment and unhealthy food relationships ran rampant in my house. Majority of my family was severely obese and food became control for me when I couldn't control what was going on around me or being done to me. As a teen I became anorexic because of it for control, and then in my first marriage, the bigger I got the more likely some of the abuse my ex did stopped because he wasn't interested there anymore so it became a safety thing. I've done a lot of damage to my body. So my amazing husband and I do our best to never talk negatively about our bodies or anyone else's. The kids know I'm trying to get healthy so I have energy to keep up with them and have fun with our family, they don't hear me say I'm trying to lose weight. We talk about how it's okay to enjoy food, but to remember that it is fuel for our bodies and we need to take care of them since we only get the one. When they were younger, we told them that it's just like fueling a car. You put gas in the car so that it can get you where you need to go and when it runs out of gas it can't go anywhere but you also have to make sure you don't overfill it because that can also be unsafe; and that's how food is for our body, so we have to be wise in how we fuel ourselves. And what works for one, may not work for another. When they asked us hard questions about why someone in our family is one way or another, we explain about how we all get to make choices and those choices have good and/or bad consequences.

One of your verse you wrote follows my favorite verse Annamommy For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. — Amazing Grace

Yes, New_Wayne, I love that verse too! It’s such a good reminder and, for me, goes along with Psalm 121. Because when we remember where our help and our hope is found, we point to the one Who saves and not to ourselves. Love it! Thank you so much for sharing your favorite verse with me 🥰

Thank you for the blessing of these verses and for the wise thoughts about raising children - in my case grandchildren. It is so painful for me to see them being fed foods that disrupt their mood and health.
