Nikina70's Journal, 23 Jun 23

Had a bit of a health scare this week with my blood pressure being dangerously high. I've been put straight on to some medication to lower it and will speak to someone on Tuesday again to discuss the results of blood tests I went for yesterday.

Gotta say I'm not very happy about it because I have a healthy weight range, exercise regularly and eat really healthily 80% of the time, which I thought was enough to escape the family history of diabetes and blood pressure issues most of my overweight family struggle with.

Hoping to have some answers and clarity soon so I can get back to feeling a bit more normal again. Anxiety and lethargy have been bad for months now, but I put it down to perimenopause - so thought I'd be starting HRT. I'm not keen on taking blood pressure meds for the rest of my life.

So, this week I'm happy with just the maintain. Haven't been doing IF, but still trying to walk fairly often. Step count for the week so far is 30,000 so if we do two good walks over the weekend I could hit my new target of 45,500.

We're hoping to visit a National Trust estate over the weekend to walk the grounds and see the house. Got a family pass in the newspaper a while ago. We'll take a nice picnic along as well and I'm looking forward to it - if the weather plays along.

Hope you all have a good weekend! xxx

Your walking is surely helping. I read that onions, garlic, etc. are good for BP, also sleep and longer fasting. I've seen my BP drop with fasting 3-7 days, and it lasts for months, then I need to fast again.

Hi Nikina 70, hope your feeling better soon. We are all so different, sometimes it would be better if there was no illness and badness. But sadly it doesn't work like that. Keep well and safe very best wishes Merry Mel 🤩

Will think good thoughts for you, nikina. If you’re able to, get a home monitor and watch it at regular intervals during the day to see if it’s a thing.

Best wishes on this. I have hypertension, among other cardiac issues, and over the past decade I have put a lot of time and effort into knowing the beast and managing it.

similarly my family are the same with BP and also lost my father and 2 brothers to heart disease. I read that potassium is excellent in helping the body to reduce and maintain good blood pressure levels and apparently few of us eat ingest enough in our regular diets. So I am trying to add more natural foods with high potassium. Best wishes to you.

Thanks Erika! I wondering about fasting, but I'll wait till my appointment on Tuesday and ask them about it before I get back to IF again. I'm not too keen on longer fasts personally, but I might give it a try if it helps.

Thank you Cheese! Aah, a friend of mine said she had high blood pressure and felt awful when she was pregnant with her twins too so I'm sorry to hear that, but glad it is possible to recover from it. I'm hoping I'll be able to get it back to normal soon too. x

Thank you Goal! It's a tough one and I'm sorry to hear that you've had it for over a decade, but it also gives me hope that all will be fine. Glad you are managing as I hope to too.

Jam122, I am sorry to hear that you've lost family members as well. I do eat a fair amount of potassium rich foods as I try to have about 30 different plant foods a week so it is definitely in the rotation, but thanks for the tip. Best wishes to you too!
