59Carol's Journal, 10 Jun 23

This week I gained 0.6 pound. I am disappointed. Calories were 50 less than last week when I lost 1 pound. Seems unfair! I also was much more physical this week as I did a lot in my yard during which I am not only moving but not eating!

There are a number of explanations. The most obvious one is did I miss counting some of the snicks and snacks? Maybe. Those are usually fairly unconscious so it is easy to miss them. The other is that my body is reacting to the extra physical exercise by not releasing the weight. Sounds hokey but it has seemed true in the past - no scientific evidence though.

This up coming week is going to be a whirlwind in activity as well as eating minefields. It starts today. It is my granddaughter's graduation ceremony. I plan to stop at Subway for a salad with roast chicken. I will take a protein bar with me. After the ceremony I will be working a bit at my father in laws and have supper at home. Monday is an evening meeting which I will either pack or purchase at subway. Wednesday is a meeting that starts at 4:30 amd goes to 8:30. I will bring something with me. Thursday is a road trip with my son leaving just before lunch and not sure when I will get home - maybe after supper. There is a family barbeque likely on the Friday or Saturday.

Last week was also a tough one but I think I did okay on the food front. Monday was a subcommittee meeting. I ate one provided sandwich (no spread, no cheese) and a small date bar. I ate a protein bar on the way home. Tuesday was an awards barbeque for my granddaughter (she got the academic award!) followed by an Eagle Feather ceremony. At the barbeque I ate one weiner (no bun or condiments), some raw vegetables and later on at the Eagle Feather ceremony I ate a protein bar. Thursday I was on the road all day long however I managed to eat all meals at home in between driving from one place to another. On Friday I subbed at the school - made my breakfast there and packed my lunch, supper at home!

So busy! I'm betting that weight gain is temporary. Have a good weekend!

Hang in there Carol. It will equalize in time. Took a quick peek at your food journal...perhaps consider trying to even your carb/protein ratio. I love my carbs, but am finding that they tend to scuttle my progress. Still have them (the simple ones) like was craving pasta so had it, but I also try to compensate by having only carbs embedded in vegetables and limited fruit instead on subsequent days. It certainly is a fight to figure out what our bodies want vs. what we want and how to get it to behave as we would like. Good luck with all the occasions coming up. You are braver than I. At the moment I'm still avoiding temptation. Will likely be a hermit by the time I get to goal.

protein bars have alot of calories and don't seem to be very filling. Try a fit and light yogurt or half protein bar only. or small handful almonds.

Annisworkingonit- Thanks for your feedback. I have generally not worried too much about carbs. I go for the plan of whether they are close to their natural state. I try to avoid highly processed food although I am indulging in a slice of bread this last while- which is definitely processed when you consider the flour. I tend to avoid pasta although I know it can be a good choice - I just tend to over eat it. I need to make my eating to fit my life as I will be watching my weight literally for the rest of my life. There is no 'one and done' when it comes to weight loss so Life must go on and I need to manage my food choices along the way!

Cassiarre- I found a protein bar (RX Bar) that is 190 calories and is made from very few ingredients. It contains 3 egg whites, 6 almonds, 4 cashews, 2 dates and blueberries. Nothing else! It has 12g of protein and 6g of fat. It is a fairly 'large' one and tastes a bit like fruit leather with nuts embedded in it. When I am wanting something to eat RIGHT NOW I tend to eat things that add up to more than 200 calories. This method is allowing a filling something sweet. If I eat it and immediately distract myself by doing something I find in about 15 minutes that I am not hungry.
