59Carol's Journal, 25 Jun 22

I gained 1.6 pounds this week. As I shared last week, I knew this week was going to be tough. I was at a camping Music Festival this past week where I volunteer. This brings the added perk of luscious homemade baking free for the taking! Immediately upon returning I plunged into 8-hour days of setting up for the used book sale in support of our local Women's Shelter which brought a daily indulgence of a large home baked cookie from the local coffee shop. The actual sale began last night and is going through this weekend.

I can look at this 1.6-pound gain as fairly slight in the face of the crazy eating I have been doing in the baked goods area. And that would be accurate. I can look at this as a part of a trend in the month of June where I gained 1-pound last week and 0.6 pounds the week before making this month an over all gain of 2.8 pounds (I lost 0.4 pounds in the first week). It isn't pleasant to see this trend. Finally, I can look at the last 6 months where I am up a total of 4 pounds. Definitely not what I have been going for.

What does all this data tell me? Modest gains add up. If I wish to have an overall loss this year, I have 4 pounds to lose plus more. In the past three years I have lost 12 pounds and 15 pounds in the last 6 months of the year (one year I gained 4 pounds in the last 6 months).

Definitely do able but I will have to keep my focus over the next 6 months. That means the week by week I need to log in a loss no matter how modest and reverse this trend of modest gains.

I have included pictures of the finished rock work on my house for those of you who asked!

This house is beautiful! I LOVE the work you had done! Exquisite! Hang in there, kid! Some months are just plain tough! This journey isn't FUN! I've said to many people who have asked about what I am doing to lose the weight. Most of us are here because WE LOVE TO EAT!!! I know that my issue - I love food! Almost ALL of it! So controlling and resisting it - SUCKS! So, when you have a tough time, give yourself a break and try to get back on track. I see by your post that you are really looking at the history and what needs to be done now. Just know that it sucks for me too! I am with you 💯! Stay strong 💪! Stay focused 👀! Best of luck! ☘️

Also, looking at your page, you are really "at goal". Your journey now is more in the maintenance area. So ups and downs are likely to happen!! ❤️

Definitely have to watch out for creeping gains. I love what you've done to the house. You have a lovely, but porch and a beautiful window. Enjoy!

3dkinds2- Yes we do all love to eat! I am at goalish. When I started a hundred pounds was as much as I could envision so that was my goal. To be out of the 'overweight' category I want to get under 157 pounds so the journey isn't over yet! Right now I am willing to imagine 150-155 so that is my next goal. I find that I try to focus on the good food that I am eating and really enjoy it. I don't want to lose all this weight and then go back to old food choices and portion sizes that got me here in the first place however I am not going to deny myself foods that I enjoy- just having them less often and in mostly in smaller portions!!

Thank you for the nice compliments on my home. It was a standard white vinyl siding house. I don't actually care for vinyl siding but it was all we could afford when we first did it 20+ years ago. The rock turned out even better than I expected. I like the way that the dry stack looks. That way of laying it was my stucco lady's idea.

Shirfleur- creeping weight gains are the absolute worst because they seem so innocuous but they really add up!

Carol, a little gain for a lot of work is OK in my book! Your stone work is gorgeous!! I want that!!! My house is a barn, all wood, exactly shaped and looks like a barn. I am SICK of wood repairs!!! I want stone!!!!! Good for you!!🙌🙌👍🌺

Shrewdness- I have seen the homes that look like barns. They are so large and roomy especially the upstairs! Interesting possibilities around domer windows. I am a wood girl. I have it all throughout my home but no repairs to speak of since it isn't exposed to the elements. I am loving the stucco and rock. I have no buyer's remorse.

You made some insightful comments. You really did a lot of self/reflection. That is half the battle. Plan ahead is my mantra. When I bring my meals/snacks with me to work or on road trips- I am less tempted to purchase a meal or snacks. Splurge on the healthy snacks. That way if you don” overdo it” it’s not that bad- and you actually will feel better! I am not a sweets person. I am a salty/spicy snacker. And pretzels are my fave! So I buy some of the new low calorie low carb snacks to crunch on when we hit the road. I also take cut up veggies & fruits too. This helps me succeed. And it helps him too! Good luck. Keep strong. You can make it!

ath_agi- I agree! Plan, plan, plan! And allow for some indulgences along the way. I don't ever want to feel that I am deprived. The trick is to keep the indulgences to 'some' and not all the time. I do find that I no longer have an entitlement attitude that somehow I am being ripped off because I 'can't' eat (fill in a list of foods, here!). Saying that, I am a sweet and baked goods person. Totally a sucker for the home baked foods. Spicy and salty are relatively easy for me to resist. I make a point of having no baked goods in my house so that baked goods are an outside indulgence. Since I love to bake, that is harder than it sounds! I am finding that the more that I eat whole foods and foods with very few ingriedents (especially ones that I can't pronounce or don't have in my kitchen) that it works better for me. That means that I seldom eat the foods tailored for the 'dieter' as they often have lots of additives. I would rather have the full fat, full calorie version and have less because I feel more satiated afterwards. Thank you for your words of encouragement! Good luck on your weight loss journey.
