Arg. 2 pounds up. :(

I hope some of this gained weight is muscle due to the strength training I started doing every morning.

Why am I so tied to numbers? I look and feel better than I have in a long time.

I need to learn to let go, but it's hard since I've been looking at the scale and monitoring my weight loss for over 4 years now. My satisfaction is now tied to the number that pops up when I hop on that scale. It's such a contradiction. Honestly, I would rather get to my goal of 100 pounds of weight loss looking slimmer and fitter, but this still feels like a set back. We'll see how things really are going at the end of the month, which is when I take my body fat percentage and calculate how much muscle mass I have. I know I'll be happy. I'll try to hold onto that now in order to off set this current disappointment with this number.

Regardless, I'm very happy to be exercising again. That nerve injury and the occupational therapy that followed had me out for 10 months. It's good to re-start now and exercise on a regular basis. My glutes are happy. I can feel it. They burn. :)

A fact that will help you out here. Muscles retain water during recovery, so if your glutes burn, thats most likely where your gains are from. Ive gained 5 lbs over night after a hard weight training session. 3 days later the weight was gone.

Yes, it's called "muscle edema". Google "why the scale lies" for insight.

.2 pounds is pretty insignificant so don't dwell on that. I like to keep track of the weight daily, even though a few weeks back is said to myself, weigh in once a week. I find that even gaining .2 pounds like you did is motivating in the sense that It is not a big gain and easily explained like the two other buddies have explained it. Keep going, stay focused on the goal and be terrific!

Another one of my buddies has also lost about 80 lbs of the 100 lbs they want to lose and the weight loss has become slow. The same thing happened to me when I was at that same point. Must be something that happens to us 100-pounders when we get to 80% of our goal. I ended up getting close to my 110 lb goal, but the last 20 lbs I lost was muscle, due to not working out. Now that I'm working out, I'm gaining weight. But I know it's muscle, so I'm happy. Having more muscle and being heavier is better than having less muscle and being lighter. At this point, be grateful for your accomplishments and work on getting fitter through exercise. Don't let the number on the scale discourage you. After all, health is the most important thing, not weight.

Wow. Those articles about the lying weight scales made me feel way better. Thank you. Actually I'm grateful for each of your comments. And yes. I totally agree. It really is about health.

Madanjen: unfortunately the gain was not .2 pounds, but two whole pounds. :/ It's okay. I'm happy to gain muscle.

Just remember, leave yesterday where it belongs, in the past. Get back on your bike today.
