59Carol's Journal, 10 Jul 21

There has been a modest gain this week of 0.8 pounds. I didn't want to see this however I would say this is one of those times when outside forces are affecting my weight.

Basically I had quite a 'crazy' Thursday that bled into Friday. Here is the timeline - Thursday morning got up at 4:45am so I could drive my granddaughter to work. She is working at a market garden and they wanted to beat the heat by starting at 6am. Then I drove to Grande Prairie - 2.5 hours drive each way- where among other things I had wonderful (high calorie!!) East Indian food. I got home about 7pm. Visited with my granddaughter confirming Friday morning was the same start. Headed to bed around 9 to read. By 9:15 my renter called to say water was coming into the ceiling of his unit. I got dressed, called my daughter to borrow a wet/dry vac, called a maintenance fellow for help and headed into town (45min away). My daughter got there first. Told me she could hear the water gushing while standing in the parking lot! Went in and there was a literal waterfall coming out of the ceiling in three main locations and the entire unit was under water!! Turned out that the upstairs bathroom toilet's flex hose broke at the fitting. Don't know how many hours of the 24 hours when no one was at the unit that the water poured in. We ended up with 5 of us there. My daughter got a hotel room arranged for the renter and a trailer for his belongings. By the time we left it was after midnight. I got home around 1am. Got up at 5am to get my granddaughter to work. Then spent Friday attending to insurance and other people to do with the rental. This morning I had a gain.... ate no differently however my mind and body were disturbed! I think that I will likely come down the weight in the next couple of days as routines are re-established.

To me it is a reminder that our bodies are an integrated unit that is affected by what is going on around us. I believe this can be true of small flucutations.

Onwards and upwards! Next goal is 160 pounds. Hope to be there in about a month from now.

Carol so sorry to hear of the water issue, boy these things can be frustrating. I hope it gets fixed quickly, I agree that our state of mind does impact our weight loss, especially now I know how much quality sleep/rest aids our weight loss. Hang in there, you'll be back on track in no time💪🏾🥗. Have a wonderful weekend.🙏🏽🌻

Wow. That is crazy. Thanks for being a good landlord and taking care of things so expeditiously.

You had quite the 24 hours! As someone who rents, I appreciate the way you took care of your tenant as I can imagine many would have been left on their own. As for the gain…. Forgive yourself and move on as you can’t relive yesterday. It’s gone. Focus on NOW

On my gosh, what a mess! You have a great team to have handled it so well in the middle of the night. Weight gains unrelated to overeating don't really count because they come back down on their own. Rental properties can be a real headache sometimes, I once had a tenant who feel asleep while heating a pot of oil, which caught fire, set the kitchen on fire and almost burned the house down. Hope this week goes better for you. 💜

I appreciate all of your support! I was once a tenant and I strive to be a landlord who attends to things immediately. Certainly this one could not have been left unattended! It is going to be a total gut. The frustrating part is that I just had that unit totally renovated from the joists out in 2020. I was approaching that place where all repairs and upgrades on my two rental properties were totally done! I am in touch with my original contractor. He is coming by today to take a look in preparation for submitting an estimate.

Such a shame that a totally renovated unit was destroyed by a plumbing leak in the above unit. And I’m not sure what you could have done to prevent it. Yes… it’s a step backward. Just keep walking.
