Candkforme's Journal, 17 Jun 21

I need help making a decision. I started this journey on January 21st. Of course, I lost weight really fast at first. I lost 23 pounds in 2 months. Then I plateaued for a month. It was then that a friend was posting pictures of people losing weight really quickly on this “program”. So, I thought I’d give it a try, but it costs about $450 a month.

I’ve been on this program for 2 months and I’ve lost 15 pounds. Not quite as fast as other people it seems like. I still have 25 pounds to go and I’m trying to decide if I should stay on this program or find a way to do it without spending that much money.

I’m afraid not to do it because I am losing, even if it’s slowly, but is it worth the cost? That’s why I need help. Thank you!
70.4 kg Lost so far: 17.6 kg.    Still to go: 11.4 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

what is the program exactly??? if they are sending you your food and providing workout routines and schedules i could maybe see the cost being worth it...

With this program, there is no working out during the first phase of weight loss. They send “fuelings” and I make one meal a day. It works and a lot of people have success, I’m just losing slowly.

Hmmm, for me, trying to figure out what works long term is the the only way to be successful. Weight loss programs are great, to start for your portion control, calories, nutrition, etc. But you are exactly right... you have to start taking ownership of those things for life long weight maintenance... plus the $$ factor

Eventually we all have to do it on our own and have a life that includes caring enough to keep an eye on it. Spend the money on awesome foods!

Yes, spend that money on a really good, nutritious diet - you know what to do - don't be exploited by these diets which are so expensive and have no long term benefit unless you control your diet. If you can lose weight and pay to do it then you must be able to lose weight and pay yourself for it!

I'm with the others here. What I do is find substitutes for the most fattening foods. One example is cottage cheese mixed with chocolate protein powder and a bit of water for chocolate cheesecake. Maybe you wouldn't like that, but I totally love it. I'm sure there are other things you can do as well. Spend that money on healthy but tasty food. ❤

Read "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung. You can get the book for free at the library or through the library app "Libby." He also has a lot of YouTube Videos that you can watch for re-caps and information. If you want less science and more recaps try reading one of Gin Stephen's books "Delay, Don't Deny" or "Fast, Feast, Repeat". She has a website and her story is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tqTcRbH_JE She has several podcasts which are great. I like "Intermittent Fasting Stories" best. Whenever I think I feel hungry, I just listen to one of those stories! She is a former teacher so she breaks everything down in such a relatable way. Obesity is a hormonal disease. Appetite control and being naturally slender is within reach for pretty much everyone for very little cost other than the cost of getting the information though books. Let me know if you need anything else!

As someone who has spent a ton of money over the years to lose weight, I say no it's not worth it. That being said I still hope and wish for that 'magic' wand/pill/drink/etc...that will make the weight fall off and stay off with little to no effort 🙄 In the end the only thing that's really worked for me is diet and exercise. Only you know if this is what YOU need to stay on plan and if you can afford it. I recently had someone try to get me to buy into their program-a drink that cost about $160 a month, lots of success stories and all that but I just couldn't justify it....

Fasting and OMAD is a pretty common program. I’m sure you can find a lot of free information about how it works. Additionally, you now have experience! The key is the calorie deficit. The bigger the more you lose. Keeping track of calories would cost less and teach you more for long term success!

I would say $450 is way too much if that's all you get it!!

every single diet plan out there is what you put into it. You can spend lots of money or no money it is how much effort and time and commitment you put into it that matters.

First & foremost, terrific job dropping your first 40# in short order! Excellent progress! I hear two things - frustration with losing at a rate of 7.5# per month + a reticence to pay. Couple thoughts - frustration is the enemy of fat loss. Everybody's frustrated at their pace. How one deals with that frustration in large measure separates successful from unsuccessful dieters. Successful dieters accept that results are ALWAYS slower than desired, make incremental adjustments to their fat loss program as necessary, and hone their patience skills. Unsuccessful dieters respond to frustration by dramatically cutting calories/increasing activity and thereby spawning a voracious diet lapse. (Yours truly too often...) Or by whining "its not working" until they convince themselves of such and rationalize their rebound. Secondly, as others correctly point out, in order to maintain your losses, you will have to learn to feed yourself and manage your own intake. Does continuing with the diet service enable this? If not, how are you going to transition to maintenance? Finally, service or no, you need to budget FOUR MONTHS to finish your cut, as losses will inevitably slow further as you get closer to your goal. That means an investment of $1800 to finish with the program. Either way, if you get your mind right - which means patience - you will be successful! Good luck and much continued success. Let's go!

Don’t give up!!

I second jimmiepop. Is this program teaching you lifelong habits? Is it teaching you how to eat and take care of your body, or is it charging you for specific, preportioned meals? If you feel like you are learning good eating habits, it's worth it, but if you think you're likely to gain it all back when you stop with the program, then save yourself the money and stop now. Also, many nutritionists recommend losing no more than 2 lb/week, which is about 8 lb/month, so for you to be losing at the pace you are is VERY quick. It's faster initially because there's a lot of fluid retention, gut content, etc that gets lost in the initial diet shift. That pace will slow considerably as you near your goal. That's just reality, and it'll happen whether you're paying for an optimized program or following a careful diet on your own. =)

I recommend learning about heathy eating and sticking to calorie limit. It’s worked great for me and I feel so much better. I’ve spent about $50 on a few books on Amazon.

It depends on your priorities.... if you have the money to spend and it's working (I would keep doing it), it's working...... If you don't really have the money to spend on it..... (There is an app called Noom) and it is about half the price and it helps you change your behavior through recognizing your own reasons for eating what, when, and how you do......... I have heard a lot of good reviews from it!!!

I decided to stay on the program for another month. Although it feels like it’s coming off slowly, and I whine and complain because I only lost 6 pounds in a month, I saw the pictures! Thankfully, I’ve been taking them every month and I definitely see the difference in the photos.
