What foods trick the gut brain? What foods make you feel full earlier, or stay full longer in order to curb the desire to eat more? Here are some healthy foods that come to my mind that help me find satiety: milk, soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, meat, nuts, avocado and also eating every 2.5 hours helps sustain the comfort feeling in my tummy. I enjoy food from all food groups and realize the sugary fruits and veggies and grains send a signal for more sweet so I have become aware of this sugar addiction and am learning ways to prevent over-indulgence. I like to incorporate my fruit, veggies, and breads in with the foods that make my big brain feel full. The type of energy that I am feeling is a good gauge as to how well I am fueling and exercising my body. Since I have joined F.S. I experience mostly positive feeling energy but am aware when I am feeling tired, nervous or frustrated energy so this is the time to really listen to what I am doing.

HUNGRY? My stomach really does have a mind of its own...The digestive system contains a network of cells that operates as an autonomous second brain. The gut brain, formally know as the enteric nervous system, helps to control muscular contractions and gut secretions. It also balances the body's hunger and satiety, or feeling of fullness, and communicates those states to the big brain. I AM, THEREFORE I'M HUNGRY the body is in a state of continual hunger. But several satiety factors work to temporarily curtail the hunger instinct. Here are some of the key ways in which the gut brain tells the big brain that the body is full. Stomach Stretching: When food enters the stomach, the stomach stretches and the gut brain sends a neural message to the big brain. Peptide Release: The gut brain senses when there are nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract, and stimulates the release of peptides into the blood and results in another message to the brain. Ileal brake: In the 'ileal brake' mechanism an “Im full” message is sent to the big brain when there is too much fat to process and it reaches the ileum, the lower part of the intestine. The gut brain is spread across four organs: Esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine. Nerve signals travel to the big brain via the mesentery Muscle: Contractions that move food along are controlled by the gut brain. ~ WallStreet Journal by Guatam Nair

P.S. I am learning how my gut brain and big brain can team up and help each other with mind, body and emotion to win the battle of the bulge.

Woke up, pulled the covers over my head. Sleep is wonderful. I know I was dreaming but don't remember. Outside it is very foggy but I know if I drive up towards the foothills there is sunshine. My hunger and energy level is doing very well right now. To the shower and off to work. TOWANDA!!!!!

Note to self: 12:20PM my gut brain is satisfied along with my real brain which is distracted and feeling slightly in a fog. My energy level is moderate but my work is tedious so my emotional brain is wanting to eat because it thinks it is hungry but I will listen to my gut and drink some water until I feel real hunger signals...(Deep breath).

I really wish that the "eating every 2.5 hours" thing was easier to organize during a busy work day! I'd have to pack a lunch, and snacks, and everything! That's way too much work! :) Onward and upward!

Those old Beatles songs really bring up memories. Interesting about how the gut brain works. I hope you have had a good day Lisa.
