59Carol's Journal, 06 Mar 21

I am down 0.4 pounds. That may not sound like much but I spent most of the week with a gain of 0.4 pounds. This is the first day since last Saturday that the scale went below last weeks weight. I will take it for the win however I may have to really work to keep it off this up coming week. I do know that I ate well all week long and that I didn't have any crazy calorie fluctuations. I also continued my daily exercise with some walking added. So yes, I deserve the loss just it really wasn't showing up until this morning.

My basement renovations are totally done! As promised I took quite a few pictures of the end result. The one picture beside my leather chair is upstairs however the fellows made the side table for me. There are two of them but one picture is enough to get the idea! The CD collection and record collection are covered in the two pictures. I didn't bother with the sitting area and books simply because I have posted that before. The beds with the barnboard were created by one of my fellows. This was his first bed frame. He used wood from behind my barn. I am so pleased with the result. The last bed was made by a local man out of 'wormwood'. It is from the insects in the wood when a forest catches fire. They make quite the markings. Onto the next project!!

Thank you everyone. This has been a long job. First the main floor last year was about 4 months and then the basement and another 4 months! I am down to tweaking and outside work now to get my home shipshape. Eventually I want to replace the siding on my home but that one can wait for a bit. I have very literally put my house in order!

That was a fun tour Carol! Every room needs attention at my house, it is overwhelming! Just have to do one room at a time, but when you working full time there’s no time. Maybe, at retirement yet I have no plans to retire. Anyway, you did great looks fantastic and I love shelves and wood. 👍😊🌺🌺🌺

Glad for you that your renovations are done. Isn't it amazing that my husband is still alive? I have appreciated your support. Now things are going in a different direction: just wrote today that I am finally afraid of him.

Carol, as a school principal you counseled many people. What do you think about sending my journal to my daughter? Wouldn't it be unfair, with her cancer? Plus she wouldn't believe me anyway, she already told me I am playing the victim.

Thank you everyone for sharing with me the joy of getting my home in a place where I want it. Shrewdness I know what you mean about working and trying to attend to things as well. I think your idea of doing one room at a time is good. I would suggest start small - maybe a room that just needs a declutter, and rearrangement of belongings followed by some paint. That would be very gratifying and do-able. Could be done in a couple of weekends.

Snowwhite - sharing your journal with your daughter may or may not be useful. What is it you want her to do in response to you? Can you just ask her for that response and not try to elicit it through having her read your journal and then intuit what you want her to do with it? As for fair when she is so ill, ask her what she is up to dealing with on the parent front. If she appears overwhelmed then back off. Consider getting counselling for yourself. That may be your most productive move forward. They are trained and can help you find the answers you seek.

Very nice Carol!!! The tables are cool!!!

Bearnoggin - the tables are cool and so very functional! The right amount of space for a book and a glass. But not so big that they are in the way. The fellow who designed them is so very creative. I love how he used tile, barnboard and poplar. The materials are the star not the structure.

Absolutely wonderful, Carol!!! Thank you for sharing your photos of your beautiful home. The beds looks perfect and welcoming and everything about the renovations shouts thoughtfulness and care to detail. The floors look like they would be chilly to the feet, but I seem to remember they are heated. How lovely. Congratulations on your beautiful space and your wonderful job on your weight loss!!!!

Thank you Melissa. The only heated floors are by the seating area. Where my kids have both told me I need to get rid of the old chair... (I will when I find something I like to replace it!) I am surprised how warm the floors are but I think it is because the heat registers have been brought down to floor level. I was looking for a durable floor that would be super easy to upkeep. If it gets too chilly I have a few throw rugs I can put down.

You could start a bed and breakfast! That's what it reminds me of! 😊

I want to move in!

Thank you bearnoggin and missamy! I am so isolated where I live that I don't know if a bed and breakfast would make sense here. I personally use Air BnB when I travel but I look for places where I have the unit to myself and I don't have to interact with the owners! I will think about it.
