Naphthacat's Journal, 04 Mar 21

I was thinking back to the beginning of my time, today is international obesity/awareness day, how I eventually (after all my time with help to come out of disordered eating patterns and all that medical blahblah) decided yeah, ok diets are bullshit, I dealt with my shit (thanks threapy!), was becoming active in ways that were not physically painful, and decided I just liked myself no matter what.

Then something happened, and I thought, yeah that is all good and well, I feel mentally great and getting physically stronger, but this body still is LITERALLY weighing me down. Ever tried to run 5k at 145kg? Or at that point, 122kg ? For me it wasn't happening.

So, how was I to go forward with everything Ive learnt, continue to maintain my HAES beliefs, Intuitive eating because it makes me happy and respect my boundaries, eschew ALL DIETS, and still pursue a weight that is physically comfortable, in spite of everyone telling me I couldn't "actively pursue weightloss while still considering myself HAES aligned" I call bullshit on that too. Nobody lives in your body, you need to do what feels good for you, for the reasons you feel are right, not living another persons truth/reality who has no ability to feel what you feel. It is also why I fully support the bariatric surgical choices, with full therapy and all the good with it :)

So enter medical science, and I did the math by calculating BMR, RMR (some dietitians offer this service, I hope to have a machine of my own to offer to customers too!), AMR for my highest weight 145kg, goal weight range 70-75kg then at a few points between here/there, found a range which was easy to do, then went for it. The only importance is deficit consistency for a downward trend, not the daily ups/downs.

Then started fatsecret. Regardless what I ate, zero restrictions -- although some would argue calorie counting is a restriction, to me it simply felt like a science experiment, tracking a day here/there to get an idea, never consistently, especially not if it interfered with life, I always ate to hunger cues and cravings, made my own rules, so let them argue, I still maintain at the end of the day that we all make our own rules, and other people can argue until they're blue in the face it won't change anything.

Nobody lives in your body but you, no one has the right to tell you what to/not to do, and if you want help the resources are all around you, many of them like fatsecret are free, and remember, science > opinion what works for 1 will not always work for you :)

All in all, it has been and still is an ongoing journey of discovery and some days like today looking back on how far it has come, a day like international obesity awareness day... well, it makes me think, and reflect on these things!
