59Carol's Journal, 06 Feb 21

I must admit I am feeling resentful logging in this gain. First of all, this is the highest weight I have been all week. Secondly I have averaged 1190 calories per day which is below my 1250 maximum. I have eaten well and not been crazy about my choices. I am committed to the 'moment in time' weighing to pick up the trends. I record my weight for the week on Saturday mornings no matter what - good or bad. I realize that a 0.8 pound gain is not the end of the world and I recognize there are general body fluctuations that can account for it however I really want to say a final good-bye to the 180s!!

This week's plan is to maintain what I have been doing with an eye out for any 'sneaky' calories that I am not recording. If I don't see a weight loss next week I will be tweaking what I am doing.

More continues on my renovations saga. I am posting a picture of a light box that has been inset into the largest basement bedroom. My husband had run the electrical to implement this idea years ago. So I wanted to keep that feature. The picture was taken by a local photographer and friend of my son. My son arranged permission with the photographer. The actual location of the picture is literally 5 minutes south of my house. The picture was selected for the Canadian National Geographic Calendar! All pretty cool.

The fellows are thinking they will be done this time next week! I am thinking for sure that long but maybe a day or two over.

I made a comment yesterday on Shirfleur's cheery journal that it was -13F here. Well, guess I shouldn't have said anything because it is -33F this morning!! Not certain if I will be going for a morning walk today! Stay warm everyone.

Look into doctor Jason fung. He explains how calorie restricting is in fact starvation mode and lowers your metabolism. his recommendation is to do intermittent fasting and prolonged Fasts up to 72 hours maybe longer depending on how bad your insulin levels are. the idea is that if you lower your insulin levels your body will naturally use stored fat for fuel. it will be effortless. his advisers changed my life. the only reason I'm not at my goal weight by now is because I went on a three-month party Bender because I was tired of being locked in the house for Corona. I've restarted his program and the weight just falls off

Hang in there. As you said, it's the ups and downs aspect of the final picture that can tire you out. Stay warm and focus on all you've accomplished. ❤

You need to "reset" your body. Have a day where you eat 500 more calories than normal. Right now your body is trying to conserve your fat, because it thinks you're starving it.

The picture is stunning Carol, so beautiful! So sorry the temperature dropped so low; my son in Fairbanks is experiencing the same thing. Weight fluctuations can be so irritating sometimes, especially when a gain comes on weigh-in day. But you know that drop is just around the corner. Have a great day!

You are making good choices and eating in a deficit and a loss is imminent! Bitter cold here, too- but not like that! Yikes!

Thanks for the feedback. Not surprisingly I have dropped 1.6 pounds since weigh in day just eating on plan. I do hate it when the weight goes up on official weigh in day!! It is all about the trends and after all this time I know that. I am not an intermittent faster for a variety of reasons both physical and psychological so for me it is all about the calorie deficit and sustainability. I just organized my new storage space yesterday. It is giving me so much pleasure!

I stopped picking a weigh in day. I step on the scale every morning as a data point. Then I record the lowest weekly weight. It has been so nice to monitor the daily fluctuations and be able to see my steady progress. Also, I obviously don’t know your height and weight but 1200 calories is VERY low for 99% of people. I’m 5’1” 158lbs and have dropped 10lbs since October eating 1800-2000 calories. Your body might need more nourishment, which in turn would allow you to be more active.

Thanks Alexa. That is an interesting way of recording your weight. It would work for tracking trends. I find that I have to be careful not to allow myself to 'play a game' like 'Oh, that weight was low so now I can eat a bit more' which leads to a harder time in losing the following week. I am consistent in how I track my calories but I am not sure if I assign the correct number of calories to what I am eating. Basically I know if I eat in this particular window of calories (as I count them) I will lose approximately a pound a week. For the last 129 weeks I have averaged a loss of .72 pounds per week (for a loss of 93 pounds) so I am not being crazy about what I am eating. I exercise daily at least an hour and my energy is good. I start my day around 5am and finish up 'work' around 4pm and then read and relax until I go to bed to read around 8-9pm. So I feel I am good on that score as well. Thanks for being concerned!

Georgeous pic Carol!!! That's a really cool idea with the light box!!! I know how you feel about those stubborn pounds!!! It always feels great once they finally leave!!!

Thank you Bearnoggin. The picture of the light box really doesn't do it justice. It turned out beautiful. Right now, if I weighed in today, I would be down 2.6 pounds. Generally I know if I stick with it eventually the weight comes off. Some days it is hard to just stick with it. This weekend I should be setting up my book shelves if things go according to plan.
