59Carol's Journal, 16 Jan 21

I gained 0.8 pounds this week. I never like seeing a gain however I am not as concerned about it as I might normally be. First of all, last week I was on average a pound more than the amount I weighed last Saturday morning. This week I have remained steady all week long at approximately this weight or a bit more. I know I have eaten steadily within the 'window' and as it happens my exercise increased this week. My thoughts are that my body was doing a 'course correction' after losing 4.5 pounds in the last two weeks and has rebounded a little bit. I know if I hold the course the weight will come off and that is what I plan to do. I am glad that I didn't go back into the 180s!!

This week the weather has been mild. I have a number of friends and my sister (who is also a friend!!) who all enjoy walking. At the moment, our government has given the go ahead to outside socially distanced exercise so we have been getting in our socializing through walking. I went walking 5 times this past week. One friend suggested a nearby county road that is plowed but little used. It is tree lined and twists and turns. A beautiful sheltered walk. So that has been our go to location. I was in Grande Prairie on Monday so I met with my friend there for a walk so we could see each other.

My basement continues to move ahead. I thought that I would be moving boxes around this weekend in anticipation of some work the guys would be wanting to get at. As it happens, they didn't get quite as far as they hoped so I won't be moving boxes this weekend after all. The space is bright and cheerful looking which is a far cry from the dingy basement of the last 35 years!

I volunteered at the school for my grandson. We made 210 grilled cheese sandwiches! There were 5 other people volunteering. We were masked and did multiple handwashing. Weird to cook with a mask on!

Speaking of cooking, this week I replenished my freezer with ready made portioned food. I made butternut soup, a sweet potato shepherd's pie, a cauliflower- potato scalloped potato looking dish and tempeh stir fry! That will cover the next month of meals.

What a lovely way to get your exercise and safely visit with friends at the same time. I used to live near a town named Grand Praire also; I lived in Ville Platte and my grandmother lived in Prairie Rhonda which may be a misspelling of Ronde. Acadiana has many towns with French names. Your basement sounds lovely. Have a good day Carol.

Thanks Shirfleur. I love place names as they really tell a story. I am sure our Grande Prairie was french as the french fur traders and french catholic missionaries were instrumental in settling this area. We have quite a few french place names.
