59Carol's Journal, 10 Oct 20

I absolutely hate logging a gain however this morning I am up 0.4 pounds. I drove with my grandchildren from home to a friend's place approximately 8 hours of driving time then you add in the various stops.... and a few glitches.

The kids and I were ready to happen with the car being loaded when I tried starting my vehicle only to find that the battery was dead. This had happened Wednesday morning as well. Mysterious. So I fired up the truck and attached the booster cables. There was frost on the windshields. Took quite awhile to coax the car to start. Stopped at my daughter's man's business. They decided I needed a new battery. So went to a local store in Grimshaw that didn't have my special battery now I had to drive to Peace River to get the battery (I had no idea they were that much money!) and drive back to the shop to get it installed then drive back to the store to get my core charge... you get it. When all was said and done we burned up nearly an hour and a half and there went our early start.

The kids are great traveling companions. So that part was pleasant. We arrived at out Air BnB and heated up some lentil chili I had made and it was delicious. Unfortunately from a weight stand point I munched on an amazing peanut butter rice crispy square with MandM s on the road. Had bites of the kid's road food... and needless to say I logged an extra 250 calories on the drive.

Today we are seeing the sights in Drumheller. I am visiting two friends - one local and one driving in from Calgary to see me. It will be a lovely day!

Sounds like a great trip after the rough start, but now you've got a dependable battery before the cold weather sets in. I love your posts, always so much going on in your life. Enjoy your visit and your grandchildren. 💛

Such a tiny gain and not to worry!!! 😁 I hope you have a wondeful rest of your trip! It is so amazing to read your journal today and recognize every place you mentioned! I had friends from Peace River and Grimshaw too! Will you make it to the Royal Tyrrell? What else is in Drumheller? I think I have only ever gone the re for the dinosaurs! Years ago my oldest son fell in water while trying to cross on a log. It was one of the few times in life I didn't have a full change of clothes for all five kids. We drove to a tiny little used clothing store ER had seen nearby and got the drenched lad a while new outfit. It was "bag day" for two dollars, so all the way down to New boots and a heavy coat he was outfitted. But, the reason I tell this is the shirt he found was from the Tyrrell! It had a lovely dio skeleton on it, and it became his favorite of all time. How crazy to find that in a little costal town in Washington! 😁

And... I see how many typos made it into that far too long a comment! 😁 Anyway, I'm glad you are getting to spend this time enjoying your grandchildren. How blessed they are to have you to love them and want to be in their lives!

And I totally agree with Shir! Your journal is such fun to read! It is fun to get a glimpse of your busy, productive life! And, Shir, I am going to also guess before long she will be plugging in her truck when not in use to keep the engine just slightly warmer than 30 below zero! Your kids in Alaska probably do too, so you know all about block heaters! Hard to imagine in Texas I'm sure! ❤️

Thanks all of you! Trip was blessedly uneventful as far as disasters went. The grandkids went to the Tyrell museum and loved it. My 15 year old bought herself a Tyrell museum hoodie. The kids also got to see where I grew up in Delia - saw my old farm places and the village I went to school at. I got to visit with two wonderful friends who also got to meet each other. My granddaughter got some driving practice which was great. I am so pleased that the kids did well with all the driving. The trip was a success and now back to getting this weight off. At least I have the rest of this week to attend to the additional .4 gain. Definitely not a trend I want to embrace.
