59Carol's Journal, 03 Oct 20

I am so pleased to see this modest gain of 0.4 pounds. I spent three days in the city eating at restaurants for lunch and supper. It was very hard to find food that would conform to the types of foods I have been eating. I enjoyed my meals knowing they were not exactly on 'plan'. I returned home late Thursday so only had yesterday to return to 'ordinary' eating and reverse the 2 pound gain. Needless to say this morning seeing a modest 0.4 gain was a victory!!

To put this experience into perspective, last time I went to the city I gained 7.6 pounds in the same amount of time. It took me months to take that off.

Looking ahead I have plans to be travelling for 4 days with my grandchildren over Canadian Thanksgiving which is a week from today. I will be faced with the same challenges. I intend to come out of the experience in fairly decent shape - here's hoping!

This past week I have sold more things and my yard continues to be slowly but surely tidied up. Not totally there yet but progress is beings made.

Non scale victories - two of them. First the purpose of going to the city was for a preventive skin scan since I have had melanoma twice. I got a clean bill of health! Will need to go for check ups for two more years before out of the woods. Second, I went to the lady who fits my bras. Since I have been seeing her (about 1.5 years) I have gone from 40 inch to 36 inch and dropped two cup sizes!
83.8 kg Lost so far: 38.0 kg.    Still to go: 6.7 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

Super great, Carol!!! That doesn't even count as a "gain!" 😁 I had a week of endulgent eating and low activity and I'm up 4 not .4! I admire your control when faced with restaurant choices. Happy Thanksgiving... Soon. Enjoy your time with family! I am so happy for you that the scan was great and your NSV!!! Have a great week! ❤️

From one carol to another. Wonderful news about your scan. An as you know inches sometimes tell more than pounds. I have always been top heavy so I would love to have to change bra sizes. Stay safe and motivated.

Dear Carol, I think you were right about my husband. If you want to waste some time, could you be so kind to read my ranting and complaining? I'm so scared.

Hi Ciara- I follow a whole foods mostly plant based food plan. I aim to keep my calories around 1200 calories a day. What you eat (or don't eat!) is the main key to weight loss. I do exercise an hour daily but that is more for having strength and flexibility for living a good life - I don't do it for weight loss as that isn't where you get your biggest bang for the buck! It is all about slow steady progress and forming healthy food habits.

dear Carol ..love your post. congrats on the clean bill of health, I'm going to md to get a biopsy report back next monday and it does make me question why certain things matter.

jusinobe-cancer and concerns about cancer certainly puts a lot of things in perspective. I personally have been surrounded by cancer. For me I have had cervical cancer, melanoma twice (10 years apart) and breast cancer. Both of my parents and my husband died of colon cancer. Truly you do a great deal of thinking about what is important and what kind of life you want to live. Hope the biopsy comes back benign. If not, be as proactive as possible!
