59Carol's Journal, 01 Aug 20

I am quite hesitant to record this weight. I averaged 195 all week long and then this morning dropped to 193.4. I did not eat a lot yesterday which may explain this massive drop. Last week I dropped 0.4 pounds (didn't record it as I didn't have internet for most of last week due to shingling the roof and having to get the satellite re-calibrated) I spent the entire past week hovering plus or minus a half pound with this sudden drop this morning. Feels a bit hard to sustain this following week but I will certainly try! This is the lowest weight I have recorded since I began this journey close to 2 years ago so that is exciting.

As far as calories go, for the past two weeks I averaged under my window 30-60 calories per day. That isn't necessarily ideal as I have learned in the past that restricting calories too much can lead to slower weight loss. Generally though that is better than consistently eating over the calorie window!

I have been experimenting with eating extra protein each day. I have turned to meat to get the extra grams of protein. Presently I am reading an interesting book that basically has done a mega study on the research that has been done in the last 50 years on weight loss. It is fascinating. Generally the research is pushing in the direction of eating less dairy, eggs, meat and sugar and concentrating on more plant based nutrition. It isn't saying become a vegetarian but rather to rely more on plant based nutrition. Not sure how I am going to incorporate these findings. I will need to do some reflection on it.

Very busy last two weeks. I had a good friend do my roof. Last summer he did my barn roof. I have known him since he was a child and I trust his roofing skills. He anticipated that my simple bungalow roof would be a three day job however it turned into a 7 day job. Rain accounted for one of the days. The variety of repairs that needed to be made on the roof and the various venting stacks made up the rest of the time. I now know my roof is 100% sound. That is a good feeling.

With all the rain the lack of weeping tile in one corner of my basement became apparent as water was seeping in. There was standing water all around the one finished room. The two young men who did my main floor renos have returned to jackhammer out the corner (at least 25% of the basement)and have hauled wet dirt up the stairs to make the trenches. Next week they will put the weeping tile in and cement things back up. While they are doing this they are also simplifying some of my plumbing structures and making it ready to install a bathroom. Hopefully they will finish in another week. I am getting closer and closer to having my house totally weather proof.

Yesterday I went to what is referred to as The Land where our organization owns a number of sections of land and where we put on an annual music festival. A number of our organization's members live on The Land - some part time and some full time. One of our members (the brother of my roofer) died last year. They are having a gathering in his honour this weekend. The group is trying hard to be aware of the COVID restrictions however I felt that the guests would find it increasingly difficult to maintain social distancing as the weekend went on. So my solution was to cook ahead for the feast, drop off the food and assist my friend (mother of the young man) to chop vegetables. I stayed around 5-6 hours and returned home last night.
