day 10 of my water fast. in spite of how well things are going, i've decided i needed to give up sweetener for various reasons. so difficult as i love the taste of sugar, so i went on a mission to find the naturally sweetest herbal tea i could. didn't really find what i was hoping for. ah well, i'm long overdue to kick my sugar addiction. for anyone reading, i found an abbreviated version of dr fung's bestseller on amazon thats about 40% of the price and only 86 pages. i haven't read it but it has lots of positive reviews. it appears to boil down the book i read into the main points. for someone who doesn't really enjoy reading, it could be an option.

otherwise, i got a blood pressure monitor for home today. i don't have any bp issues but it was on sale and i think its just a good idea to keep an eye out especially for bp drops and to have a baseline before i drop a lot more weight. the days are good, but i've woken up early morn the last few days feeling nauseous enough to get me out of bed. i'm not dehydrated persay (the old colour of your pee test). matter of fact my urine has been far darker. so my guess is its an electrolyte issue. i am taking a calcium magnesium zinc supolement daily so my guess is its a lack of sodium. a fair amount of pple require it when long term fasting, some pple don't. so i added 1/4 tsp to a glass of cool water and drank it down first thing. seems to have done the trick. thats about 500 mg which when on a fast seems to be enough and the kidneys will do a good job of retaining or expelling as necessary. some people will take a teaspoonful or about 1500mg of sodium daily. i don't know if i can ingest that much "salt water" daily though. we'll see. i have GERD by the way. pretty severe case of it due to a hyatal hernia so its also possible my nausea is tied to that. plus i take a tylenol nighttime for sleep issues. so i have a few factors. whatever the cause it certainly has made this fast more challenging than it might be for some. they say the more fasts you do, the easier it gets. i hope to make it a month but may find 2 weeks is my limit due to the on and off nausea. i'm off work for 2 more days so day 14 shouldn't be that hard to get to. but in the book by dr. fung i note in a section where they cover people who shouldn't or might not want to fast GERD is mentioned. i do take proton pump inhibitors but as i hadn't been noticing any reflux at all prior to the fast took them infrequently. so i'll get back on those daily. its very possible i have acid in my stomach and no food to work on. i have to remember any fast especially if your body isn't used to fasting, is a drastic change for the ecosystem. i would suggest do your prepwork before starting one. if i had read dr fungs book before starting i would have been better equipped!
