tenax661's Journal, 10 Apr 20

i'm going to start daily journaling my fasting experience. Hopefully to benefit others here. So late yesterday I had 1 cup of campbell's thai broth. (if really needing something to sate appetite bone broth is a good thing and full of nutrients but I have no bone broth handy. that "cup of soup" sure tasted good! i was a bit concerned as it has 2 grams of sugar and if it would be enough to kick me out of ketosis. i woke up after 5.5 hours of sleep (about norm) with a sore tummy (not uncommon for me as it seems to be my morning sign i'm a bit dehydrated. A dry mouth confirmed that). So I did my first meter blood test under ideal conditions. 5 days ago I was 1.5. Now I'm 3.2! Firmly in the keto zone now! What's the excitement about being above 3? 3 to 5 is the optimum therapeutic keto zone for all the healthy benefits possible. Its a level also achievable during a keto diet. Not just fasting. And this where having the meter is really great to have to fine tune the numbers for the most benefit. Am I concerned about my ketone level running wild on me? Not a bit. According to Dr Fung's book the body doesn't just let things happen. It's busy regulating everything. blood sugars, insulin, nutrients. when our "machine" isn't working properly and we have too much fat for example, its a result of carb overload to the point the machine can only do too much. It has not evolved to the point it can compensate for what our ancestors didnt have to contend with. processed food, most containing sugar! Plus a media machine that bombards us with carb laden foods. That being said...I'm down 1 lb today. Sometimes I weigh again later in the day and not surpisingly find my weigh has dropped a bit more. Not surprising but I stick with the morning weigh in. I will do my next blood test in 1 week. Btw, if you do decide to do broth occasionally, unless its a proper bone broth, its not recommended to do daily during a water fast. Use it say once a week if you are at a point where you really need something with taste and substance occasionally.
