8th day of my water (tea and water) only fast. i decided i needed to do a serious fast to help me in setting a new relationship with my appetite and food. reading an amazing book called the complete guide to fasting by dr. Jason Fung. I highly recommend it. my goal is to do a 30-day fast which may raise some eyebrows but is far from unusual when you start reading many articles and experiences about extended fasting. I did do a one week fast before but never longer. today is the 8th day of my fast so it's a record LOL. I am in ketosis measured every 2nd day with keto sticks and I bought the Precision Neo meter which can do glucose as well as keto monitoring for a more accurate reading than the sticks. I have to say the first 4 days with the keto flu were very rough. my own fault. I should have known better as I didn't properly ease my eating into it. once I come out of it I intend to go into a high fat moderate protein and low carb eating plan. approximately 80% fat 17% protein 3 % carb. as I live alone I found a bunch of appropriate casserole recipes that will keep it from getting boring. but to start I will be eating a lot of bacon eggs and keto friendly vegetables like asparagus and cauliflower until I get into the casserole making mode. for anybody considering a keto diet and concerned about starvation and loss of muscle mass the book explains in a very common sense way why this just isn't going to happen. especially because " the true hunger" as it's called will alert you before you hit starvation mode. there's just a lot of stuff that makes sense when you read this book about fasting in general and turning your body from a sugar burning machine to a fat adaptive machine which is how you lose the weight and makes it much easier to do so. this is not about calories it's all about when and what type of foods you put in your body.
