I'm Awake Basking in the Sunlight of Life! Autumn, welcome with your gorgeous setting sun, and Autumn moon, crip cooler days, pumpkins on porches, golden Mother Earth sprinkled like glitter, streets paved in gold as the trees shed their leaves for yet another year!

Family gathering and the holiday's are upon us, I will focus on the following by Sue Patton Theole.

Detaching Compassionatley through Play

Most OF Us Have Others In Our Lives, often family members, whom we allow to emotionally sabotage us. After encountering them, we either seethe with frustration or are saturated with guilt. Learning to compassionately detach from such people is one of the most courageous and empowering things we can do for ourselves.

Susan spent years feeling guilt-ridden and frustrated over her alcoholic brother. He was convinced she had received all the love and attention from their parents and that her success was the reason for his failure. No amount of rational communication, refuting, or compassion changed his mind. She was the bad guy in his eyes. Having tried unsuccessful ways of unhooking, Susan decided she had nothing to lose by playing at it rather thank working so hard.

During their next conversation her brother's poor-me, if-it-wasn't-for-you litany began but Sue handled it differently. She visualized cartoon hooks flying all around her, and she whisked them away with her hands saying (silently, since they were on the phone), "I won't have any hooks today, thank you" Susan began to really enjoy herself batting away all the old and ugly hooks that used to pierce her.

When Susan began taking her brother's comments less seriously, she was able to remain open to him. Eventually, without her resistance to keep him fueled, and fired up, he began to act differently. We can unhook from trying to change another person's mind, save him or her, or defend ourselves, and we can do it playfully.

Affirmation: I have the courage to compassionately detach from others when necesary. I lighten up about things that irritate, annoy and hurt me. TOWANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!
