59Carol's Journal, 28 Dec 19

This is the first time I have had an overall gain for the entire month since I began this journey 16 months ago. Even worse I managed to do the gain in the space of 3 days!! Talk about the importance of every day and eating well consistently. I over ate 200 calories per day so 200*7 is 1400 calories in the week resulted in a 2.8 pound gain.

I do know that I will lose these 2.8 pounds and that I will be on track. I have already moved back to my habits and routines. I am just observing what happened.

I also observed how I felt physically and mentally on the craziest of the 3 days. I did not like how my mental world was behaving in a frantic mode of 'nothing was quite enough' and the physical world actually felt sick and uncomfortable. I also found that my stomach gas was awful. So many ways that my mind and body were protesting my actions! That day was basically on track until supper time. The next day was more of a general off track day with meals willy-nilly and snacking at a premium. The third day was reining things in with some sides of pie!

On a better note - Christmas for my family worked out much better than any of expected. All of us were focused on our traditional Christmas and the 'holes'that are left by Dave's absence and would need to be filled. We were afraid our Christmas would be fraught with a great deal of sadness. Instead we had the curve ball of illness occur. My 88 year old father in law came down with a terrible cough and diarrhea and my daughter got a virulent sore throat. This meant that my son spent a day nursing his granddad and then on Christmas Day he took the great grandkids down to visit him. My daughter and her fellow came early Christmas morning after going to the hospital where they were pretty sure she had highly contagious strep throat (the tests have since come back negative but the blisters in her throat are incredibly painful). The rest of the family (including my grandkids) stayed overnight from Christmas Eve. With so much focus on our ill family members somehow it made all the trepidation go away. Dave was definitely a presence however not as poignant as it could have been. My daughter had memory bears made out of my husband's clothes for each family member that all of us treasure. My 14 year old granddaughter chopped down our Christmas tree and dragged it in from the bush by herself. She chose the tree well.

We learned from the Thanksgiving meal fiasco so the wood stove was brought to a hotter temperature and the turkey was thoroughly cooked, the stuffing wasn't dry as dust but rather very moist and delicious and my son did an excellent job of carving the bird!

So you only went 200 calories over each day and still gained almost 3 pounds in a week? Yikes. Now I am even more terrified to get on that scale because I have basically been eating whatever I wanted the last 4 days. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤭😳

Hey, I was reading your post and what caught my eye was the fast weight gain. Rosio19 wrote about overnight gains in her 12/27 entry. Hope this helps❣️🤗🤗🤗

Thank you Moopie. It has been one day later and I have lost 1.4 pounds. I have 1.4 pounds to go to go back to even. I find when I have indulged and quickly gained weight that it usually comes off fairly quickly as well so long as I immediately go back to eating well. It is my intention not to fluctuate so wildly as it is reminiscent of yo-yo eating and that is definitely a bad plan. I am way more comfortable with slow steady weight loss. I will check out Rosio's post.

Don't worry Sally. What is done is done. Weigh yourself sooner than later to get a baseline then take a deep breath and plunge into eating as you know is best for you. The weight will come off provided you are eating well and on plan.

Thanks, Carol. I went ahead and weighed this morning and it’s not as bad as I thought it would be! I only gained about 1.5 pounds. Whew. 😅

59Carol...sorry to hear about the sickness surrounding your family time! I hope everyone recovers quickly! The keepsakes made by Dave's clothes sound so creative and precious. Take care! :)

Atta go Sally!! We often either super over estimate or super underestimate what we have done. So much better to just find out what is 'real'! 1.5 is so incredibly doable.

Thank you Binky. Today I am going to see if my father in law will go to the hospital. He may totally balk at the idea. I am concerned mostly because he is 88 years old and not as physically resilient as he once was. My daughter appears to be on the mend. Those keepsakes are something else. Maybe I will figure out how to take a picture and post it or get a picture from my daughter who took one of the group of them.
