Whew! Held my own to the last tenth of a pound! I will so take it. I had trouble staying in the calorie window I have set for myself. So when the dust has cleared to have held steady I am pleased. Throughout the week my weight fluctuated no more than a pound which was encouraging. This week is Christmas which certainly makes things more challenging. I will aim for a modest loss and I will happily take another hold my own moment.

This week the renos continued. Lots of dust and mess however the end result will be fabulous. I slept in my own bed last night so that was wonderful. Today is the last day the fellows on working on this and will pick up again sometime after Christmas. So I see cleaning for tomorrow as I ready the place for Christmas. To be fair the fellows are very cognizant of the mess and try to clean up as they go but drywall dust is insidious.

Picked my son up at 5:30 am yesterday morning. It was wonderful to see him. We met my daughter and grandkids for breakfast which was also lovely. My son is being hit hard emotionally this year. As you know his dad died, his close friend's dad died, his same close friend died, and now today he has a funeral to go to of another close friend who had been a mentor to him at one point in his life. He has been asked to speak at the funeral. The man is reeling from so much loss. Fortunately he has sought out counselling and that is helping however reeling is reeling. And now it is our first Christmas without Dave. We will be celebrating at my house with my father in law (88 years old), my children and my grandchildren and my sister. It will be good but bittersweet, I am sure. All of the family members have expressed trepidation around Christmas.

Maintaining and not going up in weight while christmas cooking is a great feat! Well done.

I'm going through something similar. My mother died 3 1/2 years ago (I was her caregiver). My brother and I have made new family traditions, and that has helped. We still incorporate our childhood traditions, but have new ones that make the holidays fun. I wish you luck and blessings this week. You can do it! :)

Thank you Binky. It is quite the journey adjusting and adapting to major loss. For myself I have had quite a bit of loss. I was 21 when Dad died, 31 when mom died and then in between those years I lost a favorite uncle and my grandmother. I was 37 when my brother died. My sister is 16 years younger than me so she suffered the same losses but was so much younger. Fortunately she joined my family when mom died and we were able to support each other. She became one of the kids at 15 as at the time my daughter was 10 and my son was 5. My sister and daughter live locally and they both spend a great deal of time with me. I am so very fortunate. My son maintains contact via telephone on a very regular basis. So here is to Christmas and a celebration of the new and the old! Yesterday my 14 year old granddaughter found and cut down the Christmas tree. It is gorgeous!

I lost my father at 14 1/2. Last summer my last grandparent died at 104. My brother is all that I have (well, extended family that lives very far away). I'm glad you have family close to you...having a support system makes every step that much easier. Sounds like you are a source of strength for others, like your sister. I feel like it is important to hold on to the things that remind you of that person...like my father's love of music or my grandmother's baking. Those are things you can pass on to others. Your granddaughter's cutting of the tree...what a memory! Hope all went well with your Christmas! :0)
