Mary Margaret's 11th Birthday Backyard Camp Out

No Whiners allowed - Friday 27 Aug 2010

Adolescence is raw emotion, where the height of feelings are at peek. Separation of strong and meek. Learning and yearning, so much to be discovered. Silly string, tissue paper, water balloons, hide 'n seek and joy flying about my home. Mood ever-changing as the sunshine left replaced by the moon and stars. Day changed into night. Cloud cover blew in with the gusting wind that whipped around two sister tents in my backyard as eleven little girls were dancing, shrieking, running, and laughing with delight trying to give each other a fright in Mary's Mom's backyard on this particular Friday night. Many tears, cheers, hurt feelings and hugs as friends with differences and special virtures all to their own, learn how to find themselves. Each little angel now resting sound asleep having sweet dreams as they know tomorrow the sun will shine again and a whole new day will be okay because they have friends.

Imagine a day when everyone practices kindness to themselves and to all others. Last night while I was sleeping in my tent I heard gun shots around 3am. With an authoritative voice I called out "Girls" thinking I may need to take action to bring them to safety. The girls didn't stir but I was on guard and used my maternal instinct to remain calm and thankfully that was the last I heard last night. Fear is a huge ugly part of our world. Towanda!!

No whiners indeed. When I find myself whining, I tell myself to grow up. Sounds like your daughter enlightens you just as I'm sure you inspire here :)

I think you were very brave to take that on, Mom. ;) It's true about girls in grades 6 and 7...those are the "cliquey years" and sometimes the groups reconfigure. If you're daughter is like you--and of course she would be!!!---she'll always attract positive influences around her. Wishing Mary many birthday blessings!!!
