Obsessive Chocaholic's Journal, 22 Aug 19

Starting last week I have been using IF (intermittent fasting). I know that I can go for a long period of time, after getting up in the morning, without eating. I never eat breakfast unless we're out somewhere. I'll eat it if it's in front of me, but I never need it.
So I am doing 20:4. I fast for 20 hours & eat in a four hour window. So my usual window is from 5-9pm. In that window, I am trying to stay away from processed sugar & eat lower carb.
So I eat dinner (meat & vegetables, maybe a little fruit) at 5pm & then at 8pm a snack. A homemade muffin with some fruit.
During the day I drink water or crystal light iced tea. In the evenings water or caff free green tea with a squeeze of lemon.
During this past week, I reached my above weight on Monday morning (today is Thursday) but then for the next two mornings I was up considerably. I still had fasted for 20 hours on those two days, but I didn't have an 8pm snack & had taken more pain medications. So although I had been eating homemade shrimp stir-fry for supper, either something I put in it was making me retain fluid or the meds did or not having that snack made the difference. I'm kind of at a loss here. But I find (so far) the fasting for 20 hours is not difficult at all for me. I haven't had any sugar cravings......so no chocolate, which is HUGE for me. Have I finally found a way of eating that will be right for me???? I lost 50 pounds 13 years ago following the GI diet, but I also went to the gym for 2 hours, 3 times a week & the other days I walked for an hour & a half. Now, I can hardly walk a block & it takes me ages. I see my Orthopedic surgeon again tomorrow & I hope he's going to schedule me for a knee replacement. And then I hope to get back into if nothing else, at least, walking. Sugar & carbohydrates have always been my downfall. Bread, pastries, chocolate....
My orthopedic surgeon would prefer that I lost 50 pounds before he would do surgery. I have only lost 17 pounds this whole year, when I've been trying off & on. I hope & pray that this time this will work for me.
We have company coming to stay with us tonight for a few days & it will be harder to stay away from sugar, I know. I seldom want to share with others that I'm "dieting", as then I feel foolish, when I fail....as usual.
If anyone reads this & it helps them in any way.....wonderful.
Others on this group have reached out to me in the past & I love them for it, but never feel worthy of praise, as I always fail by the following week.
I know my big loss this first week is due to water weight, so I hope I can even lose one pound a week, I would be on the road to success xxx
106.7 kg Lost so far: 0 kg.    Still to go: 34.1 kg.    Diet followed: Not Applicable.
