59Carol's Journal, 05 May 19

I have gained a bit this week. There is no mystery as to why this happened. I have a crew of 3 young men working on putting up on my barn this week. Two of the fellows are people I have known since they were young children. Their dad died in January and my husband died in March. The two men were close friends. Their mom and I are close friends and my children are close with the young fellows and their siblings. So it is like having family here. They bring lunch for us and I have been making supper. They are hungry. Today I served among other things homemade baked beans that the recipe claimed was for 8 people. There are none left. I have been sticking to 'comfort' type foods as that seems to hold them best. It has meant that I am eating these same comfort foods as well as eating at the irregular times they are. So I gained a bit.

I tried and tried to attach a couple of pictures to this post to show the work they have done but for some reason the site is only loading this one picture. Not sure why. This is a picture after all the shingles were taken off.

Just do the best you can right now. Just know it will take a little longer but this isn’t a race. Just don’t stop. Make the best choices you can in each situation

So glad it doesn't sound like you are feeling guilty that you too are eating this way, with them. It sounds like an act of love on your part, and theirs too. A little weight gain in this circumstance in not only understandable and expected, but in my mind, meaningless. You can lose it later when they are not there. Your meals for them are a wonderful act of love, nothing can replace that. There are times, and this is one of them, when calories aren't the most important, plus this is just temporary: a marvelous opportunity. I am gratified you have friends and family around you.
