hollywoodoregon's Journal, 27 Feb 19

ugh... i try and make healthy choices but i am having problems but i need to re-commit and start doing more exercise and i guess completely overhaul my way of eating basically entirely. i am getting hopeless but i do not want to keep getting bigger. this sucks... i started doing yoga daily since Jan 1, has not helped at all for any kind of weight loss which is kind of a bummer. after 30 days i had reduced slightly on my measurements but not much and i dont think this additional month did much else... need to amp it up i guess but just feeling really discouraged in general. discouraged and like a big fatty, not very fun.

The road to weight loss is a sustainable way of eating reducing your food intake. There are many successes on this site with lots of people who are willing to listen and to encourage us in our journey. I would suggest that you scroll through the posts and find the many successes. Then read their posts, their diets, their daily food, their activities. If their diet is posted, then research the diet and see if it is a diet you want to follow. Record what you eat, drink water, post, ask questions, learning as you go.

Ginger Dog - wonderful advice! Hollywood, hang in there. The food journal is such a powerful tool. For instance, on the weeks I have no loss, I can review what I ate and my activities to figure out where I need to fix things.

You did not say nothing about the calories, to lose weight you need a calorie deficit.

thanks for the comments and support, it's like I get all amped up on eating great and I do that, and i record, and don't see much improvement. I tried intermittent fasting the last few weeks... that was no help. its like it requires near perfection on eating, which is discouraging because it doesn't seem like I can do that... obviously, I am not doing it LOL. I eat a lot of whole foods and limit junk, but it must just be way too many calories. time to start tracking again... I just don't know why I can't stay with it lately (like the last couple years :'( ... I don't know how to get motivated or focused anymore. I don't want to get anymore fatter but it's like losing weight for me is a full time job and I already have one of those... ok end of venting :)

look on the bright side, at least you don;'t have to wait out an injury, good luck sweetheart

Change your eating habits FIRST. Exercise will not make you lose weight, only the amount of calories you eat (or not eat) will. Fasting is not something for everyone, and women may have more problems with it than men. There's no miracle here, eat less and eat better, and you'll lose weight.

Stay strong sister! I’ve been there myself through those exact thoughts of hopelessness. It's difficult to say exactly what’s causing your weight gain for sure. Maybe the foods that you consider healthy are actuallu bad for your body. How are your glucose levels? Do you have any thyroid issues? There may be other things that are causing your weight gain. I’ve had to search for years before I found a doctor willing to help run the right tests. One thing for sure - you cannot out-exercise a bad diet/bad foods. I’ve tried everything - yoga, beachbody exercises, cardio, weightlifting - nothing worked until I fixed my food. The past year I haven’t even been exercising that much and lost a lot of weight once I found the right way of eating for me. Read my story on my page and see if anything resonates. Good luck and keep on fighting. I know you’re tired, but don’t give up!

Girl, j am you. I feel the same way. I keep working out, two or three times a week and I see myself gaining weight. I think I've learned how important diet is. Exercise is great and very much important but I'm feeling like when it comes to weight loss, what you put in your body and how much is the biggest factor.

For me, tracking everything every day, and then looking back on the data (this is the key part) , is what got me 'motivated'. Only when looking at the data was I able to STOP doing things that-don't-work-for-me. Good luck!

If you make the changes to your diet and activity slowly over time, it will become so automatic you will barely notice the changes and it won't be as much of a struggle. The hardest part is patience. You are learning a new way of living and that is going to take all the gentle patience and kindness you would likely give to anyone you care about.

You are NOT a big fat fatty. You are not a number on the scale. You are working hard and it will help! Eventually the little changes add up. I lost the same amount of weight in the year before as I did in the last 3 months! Just keep it up and have faith. I like to make another change when I plateau and February was NOT good to me but...as soon as I started to get back on track the weight started dropping again. As everyone here will tell you...be good to yourself. When it seems like it isn't going your way and you're doing it right, just keep at it!!

Also GingerDog is totally right, very good advice there. Have you tried a food scale?? That really helped me!
