Johanne's Journal, 08 Feb 12

Not a very good Wednesday.

I had my nuclear stress test and echocardiograms done this morning. The tech just called me to give me my results. That's a first. I usually get the results in the mail a week or so later. Apparently, the ER visit a few Fridays ago might not have been gall stones. The ER doctor was very bored with the whole thing and all he did was a sonogram. He DIDN'T do a heart enzyme test. If he had, he might have found out it was a heart attack. I do, indeed, have gall stones, but the sonogram didn't show me PASSING a stone.

The testing this morning indicates that part of my heart isn't getting enough oxygen. Apparently I have a blockage somewhere. I have to make a follow-up with the cardiologist ASAP and take it easy in the meantime. When I first got my fitbit, I was trying to do all that walking uphill and around the yard. They think that might be what set it off since the timing is right.

I'm afraid I'm pretty upset about the whole thing. I thought I was getting so much healthier. The really good thing is, I'm 60 lbs lighter, in case I have to have heart surgery. All of the testing today was easier and more accurate because of that. They could fit the nuclear camera right in close. The nurse even looked surprised when she fitted me with the BP cuff. I am carrying most of the weight that is left in my tummy. She commented that my arm was small and had to grab the smaller cuff. I have so much excess skin on my arms (bat wings) that I hadn't realized they were small.

I probably shouldn't, but I'm going to lay down. Frankly, I'm on the verge of tears and feel like I need to sleep that off and the headache. I'll get back on later.

I'm so sorry to hear about your health problems. Please call the cardiologist ASAP and follow up. It may be something they can treat with meds or a cardiac catheterization and/or stent. Good luck and keep us posted.

Johanne - my first reaction was "h **y s**t*". I think you are the luckiest person under the sun to have survived this. I am glad you had this pre-op and they found it so something can be done. /// As to being healthier - of course you are. If you would not be it would have taken you out. If you would not have changed your lifestyle it would have happened earlier and probably worse. Knowing about a problem helps to find a solution. Follow up with a cardiologist and go from there. Take it easy in the meantime./// I'll keep you in my thoughts and send you some healing strength ♥ ♥ ♥

Oh Jo, I am soo sorry they didn't catch that in the emergency room...they should have tested you for that any way..They don't treat women the same about heart attack..That makes me mad they treated you that way...Be sure to call that cardiac doctor ASAP..He needs to know about everything...Praying for you honey...Love and Hugs...:O)

You're all so sweet. The cardiologist is the one who ordered today's test after seeing something on yesterday's EKG. I should have realized by how fast they moved to get me in for the tests that he suspected something. The fact that they called me back so soon after I got home tells me this is something I need to take care of immediately. Usually they just mail the results. Anyway, thank you for your concern. It's so nice to know people care. I can feel the love. XOXOX

oh Johanne, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Isn't it amazing how we get this type of news after we're start working on our health. As you said, the good news is that you are 60 lbs lighter and if you have to have surgery (which I hope you don't), the lighter you can be, the better. My thoughts and prayers are with you now. I'm glad you went and had these tests done, since the emergency room didn't catch it. Get as much information as you can so you can make informed decisions. HUGS!

Di, your DOM is right. I am fitter, therefore more able to handle what ever is coming. I'm pretty sure by what the tech said, there will be more testing and a fix of whatever the "blockage" is. I'm hoping it's an easy one. Your caring means so much to me. I'm sending love.

Heather, I'm a little calmer today than I was when I posted last. I am paranoid though. Every little heart flutter scares me. What a difference a day makes. I'm glad I didn't dawdle getting to the cardiologist. Since I thought it was my gall bladder, I wasn't in a particular hurry. I'm pissed at the ER doctor. If he had just run an enzyme test, he would have caught it and I would have gone to a cardiologist instead of an internist in the first place. I think that's why the internist wouldn't even schedule surgery until I saw a cardiologist. The sonogram done in the ER didn't show any stones in the ducts, therefore, the pain didn't make any sense. I plan to get as much info on all of it as I can. I DO have gall stones and the cardiologist said I SHOULD have the gall bladder out soon so I won't develop any bad problems down the road. Anyway, I'm rambling. Thanks for checking in on me and I'm sending hugs back your way. Have a great day!
