Johanne's Journal, 27 Jan 12

Sorry I've been absent. It's Friday!!!

The past few weeks have been a bit rough. It's been one week since my gall bladder attack and so far, so good. Eliminating most fat seems to be doing the trick. Last night I went to my SCA meeting. I had no idea how many of my friends, some of them very young, had their gall bladders out.

After hearing some of their horror stories of putting the surgery off and all of the stories from my buddies on here, I've decided if the surgeon recommends removal on Mon, I will have it done. I got scared when I read the stories about the after effects on the internet, but, apparently, Bren was right. This is mostly griping and fear mongering.

Everyone I've talked to, in real life and on here, has said that they were SO HAPPY to be gall bladder free and they might have problems with a few foods, but for the most part could eat as they did before. Since I have already modified my diet so much over the last few years, I shouldn't have that much of a problem after the first few months post op.

Of course, now I'm so behind on everything. Catching up is going to be a bit hard. I started on it today. Wish me luck. Hugs!!!

(Oh! And I have to stop sleeping so much. I had no idea how much I slept until I got the fitbit. LOL!)

Bonnie, I am sure that the surgeon will know what is best for you. I had that first attack in 1983 and another one in 1985...have not had one since, praise God. They told me I most likely passed the stones. I know one thing, I sure don't want another one of those attacks! Hugs and have a good weekend my sweet friend. Love you!!

Johanne, hubby had his out, glad he did. It was not a difficult surgery the way they do it these days. Sending hugs and blessings your way.

Thanks Buffy. This is my friends general surgeon, and I'm a little iffy about him. His office has called her a couple of times now to schedule the incorrect surgery. LOL! They've had a week to obtain my emergency room records and I even called his office right after I was there to make sure they did. If he doesn't have those records when I go in tomorrow, I'm scheduling with another surgeon. How can you have a consult without anything to base the consultation on?

Bren, I'm sure I'll be fine after. You just have to monitor what you read on the internet! LOL!!! As I said, I'm also a little iffy about this particular surgeon after hearing of a few of his staff snafus after I made the appt. I don't want to wake up from the anesthesia to find I've had a lap-band installed GRIN!!! Love you lady!

Hope, that's what I'm hoping. I've been afraid to put anything fat in my mouth, although yesterday I kinda lost control. But . . . so far I haven't had a repeat of the pain. I sent you an invite on fitbit. Let me know if you don't get it. Hugs!!!

Is,thanks! I've decided I will do it, just not which surgeon. We'll see tomorrow. I want to know how bad that sonogram looked.

Yvonne, I had no idea how many of my close friends have had this surgery over the years. They've all had very happy outcomes. Thanks for your encouragement and HUGS BACK!

Helewis, I hope you've had a good weekend too. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Thanks for popping in!

Stef, my mom was like you. About 25 years ago, or so, she had one or two attacks and has had no trouble since. That's why I really want to see what the sonogram report says. Three years ago I didn't have any stones. I know because they did a sonogram back then for chest pains. The stones are commonly caused by weight loss, which is where I'm assuming mine came from. Love you too!!!

Thanks, Di. As I said above, I really want to know how bad it is. I don't want to take out a basically healthy organ, but if the stones are bad, I won't hesitate. A few of my friends waited too long and paid a pretty hefty price for waiting. There is no way I want to go through that kind of pain again if it's likely to happen.
