Today I'm thankful for Thursday.

After this experience I will grow in respect for all you fasters out there. I'm fasting in preparation for a colonoscopy tomorrow. I can have no solid food, but I'm supposed to drink 8 ounces of clear liquid every hour. I was hospitalized last summer and spent 3 days "NPO", which must be Latin initials for "nothing by mouth". I was not even allowed to drink water or suck ice cubes (I had an IV so I never got dehydrated). That was awful! ...I'll quit whining about not being able to eat...

Yesterday I only got 3,000 steps on my Misfit. It seems hard to believe because I went grocery shopping and shopping at JC Penney, but I did spend at least half of the day staining logs on a ladder so maybe I stood more than I walked. I'm not sure what kind of exercise I will do today. I need to make a 1/2 sheet "Frozen" birthday cake for my granddaughter's birthday and cupcakes for my grandson's cakewalk at school. I will be on my feet most of the day, but not a lot of walking.

Tomorrow I have to be at the hospital at 7am for the procedure. I am not too concerned about the procedure itself. Most people say the prep is the hardest part. I am dreading the IV and the anesthesia. Nurses always have a hard time starting an IV on me. Usually it takes a few different nurses and then they call so-in-so on the 4th floor, because she's better at IV's. One time they even had to call in the anesthetist to get it started. And I don't react well to anesthesia. I get really nauseated and I'm groggy for the whole day. When GoodMan comes out of any kind of out patient surgery/anesthesia he always wants to stop at Menard's or go out to eat on the way home. It is everything I can do to get home and get to bed without being sick all over the place...good times.

I guess I'm not sounding very thankful today. But in all honesty I am very thankful! What a blessing to live in a time when there is such a thing as anesthesia, and tests to help doctors diagnose or screen for diseases. And the knowledge and skills doctors and nurses have is a blessing too.

Make your Thursday thankful too.

Is the Misfit something you wear on your wrist like a watch? My fitbit doesn't count steps if I'm pushing around a cart. I have to take it off and attach it to my belt loop. :) Just a thought. Anyway, good luck with the procedure tomorrow. I understand your trepidation. I get sick from anesthesia and pain pills. I'd rather be in pain than be nauseous! Sending good vibes your way!!

Yes, I wear my Misfit on my wrist. It also came with a clip for my belt, shoe or pocket. I will try that next time. Thanks for the tip! That would explain the lame step count for yesterday!
