Does anyone else get hungrier AFTER they eat? I'm OK as long as I don't eat. It would be so much easier to be anorexic but I know better. So, I eat. Then, I'm hungry.

I always want to eat. I have to make an effort to stop so I can take an honest look at if I'm really still hungry or just want to eat for the taste. I try to chug a big bottle of water with lemon juice in it before I eat, so it makes me feel full faster. I wish they didn't make food taste so good. I know you'll do wonderful. One day at a time ( or one meal, lol)

Are you eating a lot of carbs at your meals - even fruits or veggies? As you probably already know they can metabolize like sugar and just set up the cravings for more. Watch to see if adding a little bit of healthy fat to your meal will satiate you for longer. A few nuts, avocado, a small amount of butter, etc. I know you have dietary limitations, but fat keeps us full longer and increases metabolism. Good Luck.

Yes, I eat a lot of complex carbs. I have to limit protein because of kidney issues. I use Olive oil, eggs and a little butter. I can't afford things like avocados and nuts. They're so expensive! I'm not talking about cravings. I'm talking about full out hunger. If I don't eat, I'm not hungry. If I do eat, I'm hungrier immediately after I eat unless I eat twice what I should, like Thanksgiving full.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I don't eat breakfast until 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon just to keep the cravings under control. Have to watch for low blood sugar though. Intermittant fasting might work for you.

Actually, FOL, I do well on intermittent fasting. I just haven't taken the "me time" to plan for it the last few months. I've been keeping the blood sugars in very good control for the last year. My A1c hovers right around 5.4. I do have occasional hypoglycemia, but not often. I'm glad to see you back!

Yes I have the same problem. Like you the trick is to not eat, but it sure is hard not to.

I get hungry after I eat the wrong types of foods. Hi Johanne :) But each person's body is different. What sets somebody else off might set you off. It's all an experiment isn't it?

It certainly is, and the experiment is ever ongoing. I'm camping this weekend, so I've just finished cooking and portioning my food to go in the cooler so I won't be tempted to eat the wrong things. It's all in the refrigerator waiting to be packed tomorrow. I'm really trying this week to stay under 1500 calories of mostly heathy food.

Cereal (hot or cold), bread, rice, & pasta are all going to leave you starving an hour or so after eating. Avoid the evil carbs and you'll feel better.

Soon, complex carbs are a necessity in my case. I have to limit protein due to kidney issues. High protein or high fat meals make me very ill. That leaves those "evil" carbs. :-)

For the record, I'm not starving 2-3 hours after a meal. By then the feeling has worn off. I'm starving immediately after eating for about 1/2 hour. It makes no sense. And, soonsoonsoon, you will almost never see bread on my food journal. I'm a celiac and only eat bread when I make a loaf with bean and brown rice flours. I only do that when I'm away from the house for several days and not sure whether gluten free food will be available.

It is sort of an enigma for you...I see now my earlier suggestion was not helpful. Perhaps being conscious of getting more fiber in your foods will satiate better.

1. this is very insulting to the people which DO in fact SUFFER from eating disorders. Having an eating disorder is not anything like "going on a diet" and if you knew anyone that does live their life with one of those horrid diseases, you would not wish to have one as well. 2. you're not technically starving.

Wow! Mds0710, I had no intention of insulting anyone. I simply said I FELT like I was starving immediately after meals and it was easier simply not to eat. Obviously I'm not starving. I weigh 235 lbs. And yet, celiacs is starving, in a way. You're getting very little nutrition from the food you're eating, so you eat more to try to make up for the missing nutrients. My hemoglobin levels have been as low as 4.6. I was living on transfusions and multiple hospitalizations per year to keep me alive. I had upper scopes and lower scopes and bone marrow biopsies. I had heart attacks. I had cardiologists and hematologists and internists and on and on and on. I was not, however, anorexic nor bulimic and it was a careless, dramatic thing to say. I apologize sincerely for offending you. I am 71 years old and don't always think before I post (or speak, for that matter.)

HCB, I've added acacia fiber and a probiotic daily to try to help. It's a balancing act, for sure.

Mds0710, I just went to look at your profile photo, food diary and comments. If you eat like that every day, I'm so sorry for you. At least what I have is reasonably curable now that we know what is wrong.

I found out if I increase the bran it will help you to stay for longer. The one thing that you that you can increase and not increase calories

LOL! Bran is just straight out . . . gluten.

Thanks for the understanding and edit of your meaning in your recent post.

No, i use benifiber and it only adds 15 calories. This isn't bad if you are not alergic to its contents.
