This afternoon I did:
Funk Roberts - 30 Minute Unilateral Dumbbell HIIT Workout | Build Muscle | Fat Burn

Followed by:
Daniela Suarez - 7 MIN STRETCHING EXERCISES AFTER WORKOUT (New) | FULL BODY COOL DOWN FOR RELAXATION & FLEXIBILITY

No real doms from yesterday morning's workout so me thinks I didn't go quite hard enough so another mostly upper body workout today was quite challenging, but felt good. Just wish I'd remembered to throw a deadlift in there at the end because I always miss it.

The nifty thing about it being Unilateral is that only using one weight at a time meant I could use 6.5kg for some moves and 4kg for others without having to be changing plates during the workout. So, I'll try to find a few more workouts like these if I can. For the one I did yesterday I used two different sized weights at the same time for the second half of the workout, which is a bit challenging as well keeping your core and back straight, but just another way to do it since I don't want to be changing plates all the time.

I'm off to that monthly poetry evening again tonight after missing it for a few months. Someone I know will be getting on stage as well so it will be great to support her even though I hardly know her.

And on Monday night we finally won the pub quiz we usually go to twice a month. We think it helped that there were only 3 teams competing and we were just a bit lucky with those questions we usually don't have a clue about and wildly guess at. We were also 8 people in our team as opposed to usually only being 5 or 6. I do enjoy them although it's still strange to be going out on a Monday night.

Anyhoo, weigh-in tomorrow. Looking back at a diary entry a year ago at 68.8kg and I hadn't bought my weights yet and was still occasionally doing bodyweight workouts - and dismally failing at reaching my calorie deficit goals. I seem to always be talking about 'getting back to it' and I feel like a stuck record at this point. I don't have a clear solution in mind right now, but it's something I'm just very aware of. I would like to be stuck at maintenance rather than at this 5-7kg over goal weight reality. But we soldier on...

Thanks Mermee! Yes, I don't always have doms - so perhaps Wednesday's workout was fine too - as you've kindly reminded me.:) I prefer it when I can just get on with my next workout and not use it as an excuse that 'I'm still so sore'. The poetry thing was quite fun last night. For some reason I felt a bit detached from it all, but people were still very friendly and kind. Got to chat to a few more new people and this time I wasn't the only one just being part of the audience and not performing - so I might go again next month. The landlord of the pub is a woman with an amazing voice and she actually got up and sang two songs last night. It was one of those goose-bump moments so I'd go back just to hear her sing again. Hope you're having a great week too! xxx

Nikina, thanks for leaving such detailed entries. It's very nice to understand what other people are struggling with. I see you like weight training, which obviously will help you build muscle....do you use a special scale or anything else to measure fat loss or muscle gain rather than just looking at your weight?

Thanks SE2022! Hope you don't mind me shortening your username. I would love to get a smart scale sometime, but I can't really justify the price right now. I would like to think that I have more muscle than a year ago, but I've definitely been more toned and slimmer in the past so I'm aiming to get back there and beyond. I've taken some before photos so just need to achieve the desired after to take those - someday - hopefully this year. I'm also keeping track of some measurements monthly.

That makes sense. You are doing great anyway and I'm sure you will smash your goals this year!

Also, I use this scale from Amazon £19.00. The app give muscle and fat breakdown. It's probably not 100% accurate but it definitely knows the difference when I lose muscle or fat.
