Unfortunately a 5.6km trek took us dangerously near the fresh scent of coyotes in our local trails. Suddenly it became alarmingly clear that my boundless 7 month old Spaniel was at risk when she disappeared deep into the brush for at least a full 5 minutes despite the repeated call of"come." So much for my do-it-yourself Youtube training at home. Thank God she EVENTUALLY responded and I could keep her safely on leash the rest of the way home. Lesson learned: research dog obedience classes asap and never let her off leash in these woods again until she is 100% under control.
