cannboys's Journal, 08 Dec 20

In our latest release (version 8.14), we've got a few new things rolling out:
- Dark Mode (iOS only - Android to follow in January)
- A completely rebuilt password reset flow. It's now 100% in app. No more going to the website
- An updated registration and sign-in flow (on both Android and iOS), with better support for people who accidentally end up in the account creation flow instead of signing in (we get a LOT of people stuck in guest mode because of this)
- Updates for Apple Watch complications
- A survey for all users, to test your knowledge about food and nutrition.

Currently available for iOS, Android should be starting the roll out today. This will be the last release for 2020. Back again in the new year year with some super exciting upgrades in store :)

Can something be done to fix the feed of posts from members? I keep seeing things that are days old, but not the latest updates from the people I am following. I like to express my support, discuss things with them and share information - that’s the whole purpose of having a ‘social’ feature - to provide a support group. It’s difficult in so many ways, please enable better communication.

I’d like to see new comments but the same old stuff sits around in the top of the feed for days or even weeks at a time.

Yeah the community feed is well due for a refit. We need to address some other more pressing issues first though so it’s unlikely we’ll be able to do too much there until the back half of 2021.

Thanks for all your hard work making and keeping the app great!

Happy to hear that the feed is being thought about. Thanks

Please forgive me for the irrelevant comment. I want to make a comment about "following". Members do handle the "follow" action in a way equivalent to FaceBook "like". But this way it is impossible to really follow anyone at all. All their activity is thrown on a heap degrading the meaning of the "Follow" action to zero. I think the follower should be able to see a list of the members that follows and next to it small symbols with numbers for new posts, comments, support, etc. For the "New" there should a SettingsOption for the user to select "Last hour, last 12 hours, last day, last week, last month". Followed member list should be sorted through the most active member, or newer posts, comments, challenges, recipes, community posts etc. The user should be able to touch on a symbol and the the window should be split. On top of it should remain a small part of the previous window and at the bottom should show a scrolling list of the selected material sorted by either newer or older. Then scroll at the top part of the screen containing the members, touch on another followed member's eg comments symbol and so on. I realize it is a lot of programming work to do but...just have in mind. The super power of this site is not only its database and the easy way to log but also its members and their journeys.

Not irrelevant at all. Follow/following was already being built when I started 4 years ago, & it plus the feed were thrust to the front of the experience without much thought about impacts to users or our backend. It’s now groaning under its own weight.

Next year we’re focussing on making food logging easier, then as that starts to deliver results we’ll start looking at community.

Please have in mind that custom food corrections is possible only through browser not the android application. Also that uploading custom food photos and barcoding is possible only through the android application. By the way, the placement of the custom food logging text boxes, buttons, drop down lists etc became far more clear at its latest version.

No, you can edit branded foods from within Android & iOS as well. That feature was turned on a few months ago

If you search for the food then navigate to the food details where the nutrition info is displayed, there will be an ‘edit’ button at the bottom of the screen

We’ve had reports from people attempting to reset their password that they aren’t getting the email. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi Cannboys! I received a prompt for the survey and completed it. Is there a way I can see how I scored? I primarily use the phone app, so I haven't checked to see if I can find it on the desktop. Thanks!!!

TBH the food knowledge survey is to help us work out a direction for the next few years. Don’t know if there are plans to reveal your score but I’ll pass it along to the team who are working on it.

Yes please 🙌🏼 I’d like my score too! As for future directions, I also have a meditation app called insight timer, which I use twice daily to record my meditation time - they also have a lot of cool features like free talks and guided meditations, with a special set for beginners, and courses (paid subscription), groups where you can post and respond on specific topics (user created), and in the last couple of months ‘live’ talks and meditations. There is an option to donate money to content creators via a button in all the talks and teacher profiles. A lot of these kinds of features could be adapted for this community. I’d also like to see some more features around exercise, because frankly, weight loss without exercise is a recipe for future weight yo-yo. For long term healthy weight need to gain knowledge, possibly transform their mindset and develop good habits that will be sustainable into the future .

Ok thanks Cannboys! No worries! We're so conditioned you know! We thrive on seeing results! 🤣

Hey, got another question for you. What criteria qualifies a post to filter as following, featured or everyone? I'm seeing people I don't follow and who aren't following me when I filter on following. I think I read that some changes are needed? But what is the intent for featured? Is that everything you select the heart on or anyone you've commented on whether you follow them or not, and vice versa? Just like to know what the intent was. Thank you!

Featured is more like popular. If a post is getting a lot of comments & supports it’ll stay near the top of the feed. Following should only be people you’re following but it was all put together on wobbly foundations 3-4 years ago & hasn’t really been adjusted much as we’ve got feedback.

Thanks CB! Have a good rest of your weekend!

How do I log into the website? I’m permanently logged into the app, I think I used my Apple ID, have no idea how to get into the website with that.
