FullaBella's Journal, 19 Nov 13

Tuesday - November 19th. The sun is shining and I just shouted playfully at DH to 'Hush now and leave my day alone while it's still going well.' Yes, I buried the lead, brought him home last night. I barely remember much after that ~ the evening seemed to play out in a fog and I passed out in bed shortly after 8pm.

The 'going well' part of today included 1) the IRS has finally 'sort of' resolved the identity theft thing and will be issuing my refund this Friday; 2) my physician has agreed to take on DH as a patient and she makes house calls; and 3) after two weeks of muddy yuck my lawn is coming back all pretty and green.

Thank you all as always for reading and commenting on my journal yesterday. I did order the Keurig Vue this morning so a review will be forthcoming in a few days. I shared your comments on the French Door Fridge with DH and he agrees with all of you about 'standing on your head to be in the freezer but do what you want' so that may be on hold a while. HE first said 'good, your refund is finally coming, go get the fridge' but I reminded him I've not made any contributions this year while this was being resolved so I'd best just tuck that money somewhere safe and be prepared to pay.

So it would seem my 'Thanksgiving Dinner' has taken on a life of it's own. I really did not want DH's possibly last TD to be another woman's cooking (possessive, aren't I? We STILL joke about the time some other gal baked a cherry pie for him while we were dating in secret) so while I did drop off the prepaid Cracker Barrel cards to the Police department for their scheduled dinner(s) I'm going to be cooking ours.

For about ten years, thanks to an easy going boss who gave me great latitude with my scheduled business travel we celebrated Thanksgiving week in New Orleans. We always had a wonderful time as long as we got the heck out of town before it filled up with the football fans. Nonetheless, fantastic food and new dishes explored, several of which we'd recreate when we returned home.

So for starters, I'm doing Shrimp Embrochet instead of the standard crudite, chips & dips. For the main course a Turducken instead of a Butterball. I may do a Waldorf Salad - while it's sort of 'off theme' I haven't had one in a while and it sounds good. The other sides and desserts are just jumbalaying around in my head (get it, LOL) for now. I have ham in the freezer and will definitely have some good butternut squash if it's still available. It won't be quite the same as 2am beignets and hot coffee at Cafe Du Monde but maybe it will bring back some fond memories. I just need to find a dead gator for the table centerpiece.

And with that silliness, I think I'll end this journal for the day. Hope all of my friends are having a good Tuesday. Thank you for stopping by. Aieee!

It's nice to see you posting an upbeat journal with lots of good news. You certainly deserve to have the tide turn in your favor! Your Thanksgiving dinner is shaping up to be an epic event. All of your ideas sound very yummy. Maybe you could get some travel posters or pictures from travel brochures and put them up around the dining area to give it a New Orleans feel. Too bad you didn't think about the "dead gator" idea earlier in the year because you could have picked an inflatable one from the pool/swimming section of your local department store. But I am pretty sure you could find a mylar balloon that would fit the bill! Have fun with your continued planning. Let the creative juices flow!

So great to hear things going your way, and especially that DH is home & on the mend again! Can't wait to hear your Keurig review -- we all love ours! And your thanksgiving sounds wonderful & much more creative than the basic one I'll do. As much as I always hope to not have to cook it, I almost always end up doing thanksgiving, and really most holidays. But I guess since I don't cook much otherwise, I shouldn't (but probably will anyway) complain! Xoxox

Nice happy journal Bella, nice to hear you being 'silly' and fun. And glad that DH is home with you again. And PS Aleve doesn't perk me up, per se, but it does relieve the aches and pains, which perks me up :)

I'm glad to hear that your DH is home. I hope that you can get some rest, but you have impressive and ambitious Thanksgiving plans! For our family dinner in western NC, I'll be bringing wine, asparagus, and I'm not sure what else. I'm tasked with things that I can't mess up and can buy on the way. My cousin brings cornbread dressing, which is the best part of the meal. I'm going to look up the recipe for broccoli and cranberry salad. Maybe I'll surprise everyone.

Nothing shouts "Thanksgiving" like a dead alligator on your table! You are so friggin awesome, Bella!

he he he...growing up in FL we would stop at Stucky's on 301 and you could by actual stuffed baby aligators. So sad. Only thing I ever bought were the pecan candies. Since I drove that route 5-6 times a year for 30 years I guess that means I bought 180 PECAN LOGS... ugh... Wish I could walk in your back door on TD and sit at your table. YUM!
