FullaBella's Journal, 02 Oct 13

Oh sure, the day I bring the remote controlled air-shark and the air-nemo into the shop, I have customers lined up to the point I need a ticket machine when all I want to do is sit and play. It's ironic to have them floating around the room (the AC vents move them) and bumping into walls and customers while I discuss 'bidness'. Nemo keeps wandering down the hall into my art studio. A helium inflated fish is smarter than me today.

Last night in anticipation of his Birthday today, DH grumbled 'I hope you didn't invite a bunch of people over. Please tell me you didn't do that'.

I quietly imploded for a few seconds but just shrugged my shoulders. He reads 'Bella-speak' and understood my gestured response of 'get over it and suck it up Old Man... this is going on with or without your blessing.'

As with most parties, the planners have more fun than the guest. Pre-party events included whispered giggles in the laundry room last night as we rocket scientist assembled the fish and sneaking past the bedroom door on tiptoe to bring in the balloons. I even got him a 4' tall punching bag ~ he hasn't hit it yet but it's amusing and whimsical. A lighted tabletop tree decorated with party horns, whistles, hats & little treat boxes illuminates the normally dark corner of the living room. I've played the role of 'marker warden' threatening the life of anyone childish enough to try to mark on his face ::on that huge photo birthday card I had made:: or write an ugly message. Save that nonsense for the cards 'you buy', okay?

Several visitors today and he's been uncharacteristically cordial (thank goodness). I've had about two hours sleep so *I* may be the one to say 'get the heck out now... those cupcakes travel ya know' if they linger too long. I'd invited everyone with the caveat 'he can't tolerate too many people at one time or any one person for too long'. That describes me today too.

One local paper did me proud. I'd just asked to have the photo I sent them printed with a 'Local Bidness Man Celebrates 65th' headline. They wrote a very long article complimenting his contributions to this town and our industry. It was touching. Not sure if it was 'morning sleepy eye' or tears but I noted a subtle 'dabbing' when he thought I wasn't looking. The other local paper let me down but will be compensating next issue for sure (they are only a weekly publication).

Too busy with last minute cleaning and preparations to have breakfast. Pork roast and all the trimmings for lunch but barely ate any because of hopping up and down to let people in and out. That's ok .. there are still plenty of wonderful cake balls, cookies and cupcakes lingering on the serving table. They smell fabulous. I'm wondering which one I'll choose; right now the oatmeal cranberry cookies are drawing my attention but I'm leaving it to fate to see if there are any remaining. I think there are only 1-2 invited guests still outstanding so the grandson's will be happy with the bounty they'll get when they come back this evening.

I'm wearing that beautiful blouse I bought a few months ago - the first time a sales person in a hoity boutique treated me nicely. It's a very sheer long sleeve turquoise with yellow peacock feather designs tunic length. I'm wearing it over black tights & tank and knee length black leather 'motorcycle babe' type boots. I look freaking cute, by golly. I know that because I've been told that several times today - friends, family and customers. I like this look - fashionable but comfortable. It may be a keeper for a while.

The other day an old friend stopped by to visit, do some business, catch up. I haven't seen her in a while but having known her for about 15 years she is now seeing my on my third massive weight loss. Her comment was 'I never know WHAT you're going to look like.' My response was 'neither do I'. As a parting comment compliment she said 'well, I was hoping to find you looking old and fat like me. I'm disappointed.' She seemed genuinely dismayed to find me on the upswing again.

My SIL's were here today and made several comments about my 'hair' and I said 'look, it's a wig. I didn't say that last time you were here because I was in a mood that day and the way you asked came off as rude to me. But I'm not ashamed to admit it's a wig, it looks much nicer than my natural hair and I enjoy it because I no longer fight with my hair.' At that point they both began sharing their 'hair drama' with me and seemed very interested in getting wigs as well. Being as they are witchy SIL's, one tried to allude to 'natural real hair' being 'better' than synthetic and I rolled right back over the top of her with my opinion that 'it seemed too much like wearing someone elses skin and I don't even like wearing used shoes. Plus, I don't have to 'set' this one; the style is permanent so I just shake and go.' Realizing that I wasn't going to let them defeat my confidence, the conversation switched.

Many compliments today on how nice all of the balloons, decorations and treats looked. I set the party up so that it flowed in a circle. That was my plan to kind of run the visitors thru here like cattle thru a loading chute if needed. One last remaining invited since I began this journal. I think I'll wrap it up; I hear a cookie calling my name.

Hope you are all having a wonderful Wednesday. Thank you for stopping by and reading.

It sounds like the party was a huge success. I'm so glad it all went off without a hitch. Isn't it funny how you diffused the SIL's by drowning them in honesty? I think you handled it perfectly! Way to go! I hope you enjoyed your cookie ;)

The party sounds like a great success! Glad you didn't let your SIL's get you down. Some people can be so insensitive. Enjoy the rest of your day.

You are an amazing person. I had a little anxiety attack just thinking about planning and hosting a party. I am impressed by your confident attitude towards buddies and SIL's alike. I can tell this weight loss is having a good affect on you. This time is the one that will last.

Hi Bella!! It all sounds wonderful. Hosting a party like that is no small feat. Pat yourself on the back for all your hard work and how wonderfully it paid off. So happy hubby enjoyed it and the article.

Hope you enjoyed your cookie - everything for the party sounds so great!! That was so sweet of you to have the local paper do a little write-up on DH, I'm sure he appreciated it very much! Funny about your friend that was bummed about you looking so hot - seems as though misery loves company and we tend to feel better about our flaws when we are around other flawed people... hmm...
