lonniehuffman's Journal, 07 Aug 20

For the past few days I've been getting my exercise around the small town of Choteau, Montana. I'm camping at the city park. Here are some photos I took around town.

Photo Description:

1) The Teton County Courthouse was built in 1906.

2) This school bell was installed in Choteau's grade school in 1896 and served until 1953. The bell is 40 inches wide and weighs 1,200 pounds. It still rings loud and clear. I rang it today on its display outside the courthouse.

3) The park is full of Richardson's ground squirrels (Urocitellus richardsonii). They have burrows dug all over the place. They are sometimes referred to as prairie dogs, but are actually a different species that looks similar.

4) Common Snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus) growing wild in the park.

5) Einiosaurus' (Einiosaurus procurvicornis) used to roam this part of Montana. This is just one of the dinosaur models on display at the Old Trail Museum. They also have lots of fossils and other artifacts inside the museum. I didn't visit inside due to the pandemic. Maybe next time.

6) A 1936 McCormick-Deering W-30 tractor sits on display near the grain mill.

7) Spring Creek runs through the city park where I'm camping.

8) Giant Goldenrod (Solidago gigantea) blooming along the edge of Spring Creek.

The architecture of public spaces is so interesting to me. The 1906 courthouse has a “churchy” look to it!

I always love your pictures, Lonnie, and look for them... hoping for a glimpse of your adventures. In this set, which is full of interesting and beautiful things, I think I like the little creek best. I'd like to sit beside it all afternoon!

The beautiful scenery is definitely a big part of my motivation to exercise, LauraR88. I bought a treadmill once, back when I lived in a house. It wasn't long before I changed its name to dreadmill. Walking in a beautiful place is MUCH, MUCH better. I'm so glad y'all like my exercise photos. Thanks for all the support and especially for all the lovely comments.

Dreadmill!! Lonnie, that’s so funny. 😂 Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend. I look forward to more photos! I love seeing all the nature and wildlife photos as well as the photos of the little charming towns. My sister’s hubby was born in Montana and they love going back there for camping and hiking trips. They live in Oregon now, so they are lucky to enjoy beautiful weather and scenery on that coast.
