Obsessive Chocaholic's Journal, 29 Aug 13

THIS IS WEDNESDAY EVENING AUGUST 28/13.

I began on Aug 26/13 trying a new way of eating for ME. I am hoping that this will help me eat healthier, smaller portions, drink more water, & leave a way for me to have some small treats.

Whenever I arise from sleep, be it early or late morning or afternoon, my regular thing was too take 4ozs orange juice (with pulp)together with my morning meds. I don't know whether that juice was enough to see me through a large part of my day, without other food, or it's just simply that when I have been sleeping, I don't want food for hours. But lunchtime would come around & food was being made, so I would eat; Then I'd snack in the afternoon maybe; then eat a large dinner in the evening, then I would crave dessert of some kind!!

If it was cake or pie, or ice-cream on it, squares........you name it, I NEVER would stop at one serving. Then I would be in front of the TV for the evening or the computer, with my dessert if I was still eating it. Later that would be followed by chocolate bars. I would come upstairs to get ready for bed & often be in the mood to eat something. Toast & Jam, BIG bowl of cereal & milk, even a banana in it. The toast could end up being 4 slices or 6, the cereal could lead to several more bowls. Then I would go to bed at 2am or 3am. So obviously eating before bed or late at night is not going to help me lose weight............

So this is the plan I am trying for ME.

When I wake up in the morning, I take my meds with a glass of room temperature water, sometimes with lemon in it, that I prepared the night before & I leave on my nightstand with my meds.
From now until supper, all I will eat is fruit & only if I feel hungry. (If I should go out for lunch, then I will have a salad)

So for me (I am on Day 3 today)in the middle of the afternoon, (it can be earlier if I arose earlier) I have eaten a small banana chopped up together with a chopped up nectarine. I drink water either hot (because that's my thing, I don't drink coffee or tea) or ice water or room temperature water. I'm just trying to be more aware to drinking more fluids.
Suppertime, I will have a big supper which allows me to have potatoes, meat, at least 2 servings of at least 2 different vegetables, or 1 vegetable & nice salad. I am allowing myself to have one bread "thing".
To clarify what I mean, on Monday night & Tuesday night, I had new potatoes, ground beef stew with onions, carrots & parsnips. And a biscuit with margarine.
Tonight I had salmon filet pan-fried in coconut oil, new potatoes, broccoli & a large tossed salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, radishes, red pepper, & boiled beets. I was allowing myself to have one slice of flax bread with marg, but I didn't need it, I was full.
Depending on what is happening in the evening, I would like to finish all of my eating by 7 or 7.30pm. Now shortly before that cut off time, I can have a 100 cals treat......if I want it!!! That could be an ice-cream popsicle, 2 cookies, 100 cals Choc Bar, Diet Jello with low fat cream......whatever I feel would be a good choice for my treat. I should now be finished eating for the day. But as I have about 100 pounds of weight to lose, it could happen that I will feel hungry later. Especially if I stay up very late.

If I drank water & that doesn't satisfy, then I can have the half glass of Orange Juice that I used to take to start my day. Now if that doesn't work & for sure I want to eat, I will only allow myself to have a fruit smoothie, made with frozen fruit, 0% yogourt & low-fat milk & I could add protein powder to it also for a more filling drink.

So this is the diet I have come up with for me. It's after midnight at the moment & I'm drinking my orange juice. I find it just gives me something more than water. I usually drink a glass of calorie free iced tea in the afternoon or with supper, but not later because of the caffeine.

I am SO hoping that I have tailored something here to suit my needs, but have added more fruits & water & eliminated late night bingeing. I also do not allow myself to eat while watching TV. Especially if it's my 100 calorie reward snack. I devote my whole attention to it, for the few minutes that it lasts!!

Obsessive, whatever works for you. The only thing I question is the orange juice at night becasue of the sugar content. Good luck on your journey.

Hi cjmurph, Thanks for the good wishes. The orange juice is unsweetened & I just wondered when I was drinking it first thing in the morning, was that helping to keep my appetite or cravings (or both) under control?? So by switching it to night-time, would it do the same??? And seeing how I was always eating junk in the evening, I figured calorie-wise, 1/2 glass or orange juice doesn't compare. So far, it's been working, but thanks for your thoughts. I do appreciate your feedback.

I lost a lot of weight in 2006 by following the GI Diet & spending 2 hrs at the gym days week, doing pilates, line dancing & belly dancing, 3 nights a week. The other days I walked for at least an hour. I gave up eating choc bars for 5 months & really restricted myself on desserts. I no longer have the energy or physical ability do try even half of that exercise regimen & have never again been able to stick with the GI diet for more than a week or so. It's a great diet to follow, as really it's all about healthier choices of eating, but.............. That's why I'm trying to work with my own body & listening to it. If I'm not hungry, why eat, just because it's breakfast time or lunch time?? But time will tell!!
