tenax661's Journal, 04 May 20

Nothing much to report today so a good opportunity to dedicate a journal entry to a person I've met/never met, named Linda. As I'm on the verge of being laid off, I came across an ad in my city for a "handicapped woman with 3 disorders needing someone to get her groceries" and she will pay 140 cash each time. So I thought, what the heck. I happen to have free time on my hands. This was on Thursday night. So I messaged her with my interest early friday morning. I get a call at 6am sharp. WTH? Turns out its Linda. We talked for almost an hour about what she needs and more. Made a bit of a bond. I couldn't get groceries on Friday as I had the family bbq & she has sleep disorders & sleeps during the day a lot. She was cool, we agreed saturday or sunday. Saturday No message so I think she has decided to get help from someone else maybe? Then a message overnight that she was too sick saturday, working on grocery list. Try for Sunday at 5, please don't give up on me? Of course I say, however I can help. Sunday goes by. No word. Then a txt last night at 915. Sorry too sick. I have COPD. So in addition to full body arthritis, needing a CPAP machine at night & allergies she has this. 66, alone in her condo with her cat, can't go to a doctor because they don't want sick people in their office with symptoms like hers due to Covid 19 but she doesn't want to go to the hospital for fear of getting the virus, as many are. Doesn't want to get in home care because she doesn't want to risk the virus being brought into her space. She's not stupid..or ignorant, but she fears contact with the outside world right now. Trapped in her condo, trapped in a broken body. As she said to me she had a very successful career, made a lot of money so its literally no issue to pay very well for grocery runs. Yet all that money can't help her now.

I fear I may never meet Linda at this rate. Sounds like she's very ill and getting worse. Certainly reading up on COPD, it struck me as a slow but sure death sentence and coupled with coronavirus or another respiratory infection, would be the death of her.

So..I guess what we can all take away from this, those of us especially who in our struggles to overcome 10...40...100 extra pounds and have felt trapped in a body we don't want...think of Linda's story and maybe draw some inspiration from it for yourself.
