Friday - February 1st

Last night I didn't get to sleep at all, no, no. The sleeping pill I took was just a waste of time. I couldn't close my eyes 'cause you were on my mind - The Fifth Dimension

I’ve heard and lamely sang along with this song for decades but it wasn’t until about 3am this morning I decided they were singing about food. Sure, in the second stanza they allude to making a phone call but I suspect it was for pizza delivery.
After several tortured hours of tossing and turning and kicking the mattress and pacing I recognized I was feeling hungry but I was determined to stay on track to stop the night snacking. I’d eaten an 8 oz grilled salmon for dinner. I ‘should not’ have been hungry.
I went through the usual steps. ‘Maybe your body is thirsty’ so I drank two bottles of water. In the next hour I followed up with hot lemon water. At 4am I decided to go ahead and have a bulletproof coffee. Finally around 6am I managed to squeeze in about an hour of sleep. Now I’m sitting here hoping I hold out for the day and am recording my meals in advance to avoid overeating by blaming exhaustion.
I’ve read this keto WOE should bring about some mental clarity. Goodness, do I ever hope so. Last night I picked up a few things at the Grocery for Superbowl Sunday. Deli sliced turkey and cheese to make lettuce wraps, olives, avocado, and summer sausage. Fortunately my friend Yoga is a low carb eater.
So then I entered the items into FS just to get the macros and I guess my contact lenses had completely dried up because I had to squelch a screech when I ‘thought’ I read: 3 slices Deli Sliced Turkey = 35 carbs.
I nearly lost my mind! Seriously. Therefore, during the insomniac insanity I repeatedly thought ‘how did I miss that? Turkey? Carbs? Black is white, up is down and lean meat is carb heavy?’
In the light of day I discovered I was wrong. Whew. Thank goodness I’d fought the urge to throw it in the trash last night.
Ah well. Live and learn. Hopefully I’ll get some decent sleep tonight.

PS: I think the activity recording section needs a 'tossing & turning' category. I can practically bench press a king sized bed.

I think the strips can be a helpful tool. Glad you got some sleep. Figure out what you have to do to get to a relaxed spot.

@FullaBella, you don't need to use both a serum ketone meter with strips *plus* urine strips. I tried the urine sticks but threw them out and use only my "Precision Xtra" meter once a week. (The meter test strips are more expensive than glucose strips and not covered by my insurance.) As your body becomes fat-adapted and burns those ketones, the ketone bodies in the urine decline, so the serum ketone meter is more accurate and more useful for the long term. \\\\\\ AN IMPORTANT NOTE: A high level of ketones in the urine *can* indicate "ketoACIDOSIS," a very dangerous condition, or some other disease process. (That is different from "ketoSIS.") Type 1 diabetics and others need to guard against ketoACIDOSIS resulting from hypoglycemia. KetoACIDOSIS is a medical emergency.//////

@Mira - yeah, when I was looking around the research indicated the urine strips were not as accurate as the meter but like you said, yikes on the cost. Got it all in today - my keto was .3 which I believe was classified as a low keto mode. Haven't tried the urine strips yet. I'm not sure how I feel about the .3 and what it will take to move it higher but not too high... I feel like a lab rat.
