Reasons why dieting on low calories is a bad idea. Less energy in equals less energy out. You have less energy. You fidget less, you tend to lay around more, you offset the difference in calorie intake by subconsciously lowering your non-exercise activated thermogenesis. To make it worse, if you're lifting weights, you will have a lower power output making lean body mass retention worse. Less food equals fewer nutrients. Also, the lower your intake the faster other metabolic adaptations occur which make matters worse. You also run a higher risk of a binge as your body fights the shock by raising hunger when you're at your weakest. You suffer other things like hair loss and insomnia.

TLDR, diet within 10-25% of your maintenance calories to have a higher chance of success and be patient.

Thanks, Chris! You and others on this site are really helping me more than you know! I wouldn't be here motivating if you all were not motivating me in return! <3

:D Back at ya! Quality over quantity, my friend. Likewise on the scale for me, but the mirror shows a different story. I'm only down 9 pounds from my high of this year. The scale is only one of many indicators of progress for weightlifters. Body composition is king. For the seriously overweight it plays a bigger part, of course.

Less twitching.....Layne Norton video you shared a few months back reminded me of this and how we literally move less when we dump down too far with calories. BTW, I had your pec pic at 62% BF.....I am spitballing here so I could be off a few percent. hehehe

Lol, what can I say, maybe if I cleaned up my diet? :D. Speaking of Layne yeah, he had videos where he was at the tail end of his contest prep where he actually even blinked slower. Very neat(excuse the pun).

I used to hate the old low ... everything I swear - just low everything diet. Dragging butt all the time. Doctor's are masochistic. He was probably at home snickering. Yeah, it didn't last long for me. I just couldn't do it. Then the guilt and shame they try to pile on for not following some tortuous routine. Uh...no. Rather be fat.

I've read many times that doctors spend about 5% of their schooling on nutrition but people take their word as gospel. I mean, when it comes to diabetes, that's fine but when it's just for weight loss, unless they specialize in it or are also a dietician, you'll get better advice from a random FS member. Sure, low calories would be the quickest way to get someone healthy if they are really overweight, but that isn't sustainable for most. Falling off and never coming back to it is not helping but what do they care, they can just sell you on some meds.

Just thinking About the “fact” that I had to eat salads in order to lose weight, used to make me give up on my weight loss journey 😢
