Good Monday morning everyone - what an amazing day. It is beautiful out sunny and it is expected to be mid 80s by this afternoon. Today is alive day 181 - what a journey this has been. I am so grateful to just be here. I spent yesterday at a picnic with some friends that I haven't seen in a while. I have discovered that I have learned a lot in the last 6 months and I have also uncovered that I have so much more to learn. I am in this for the long haul - so I am going to do everything I can to get out and enjoy life. I know my boundaries (mostly) and I understand that my pancreas is not going to help out very much. I have been able to eat really well and I haven't had a high BGL number for about 4 months now. My lesson learned is that using a scale is critical for me - having an accurate scale is also important. I just learned this weekend that my scale is off by a half ounce. I discovered this by having the grocery store weigh a package of ground pork and then I checked it on my scale at home. I am also suspecting that the "diabetes supplement" I started taking is causing constipation (I know - not polite table talk. but it matters) so I am going to go back off to see if this corrects. Our individual bio-machines are just so amazing with how they process fuel and how it impacts us. I want to say thanks to everyone here for your insight and encouragement as it is my class room. I am enjoying my coffee and I am going to get back to work. I wish you all the best on your life adventure today.

Two questions, one pretty old: 1. Does coffee seem to stimulate insulin production for you? I've seen it mentioned on other sites. 2. Did you have any luck with your spreadsheet curve fit some months back? Thanks.

Hi Tom - so I sporadically produce insulin and coffee really doesn't effect it. I dose in the morning with a 70/30 insulin so I have a regular and intermediate in my system for at least half a day. metformin helps with the rest of the process from my liver and cell absorption. My graph really did help in adjusting to a tapering off of my carbs through the day. so my largest carb meal in in the AM and the smallest in the evening plus a reduced my overall carb intake to 50g per meal and 20g at a snack (give or take a bit). it has resulted in my morning BGL to be at 115 Average for the past few weeks. I have even had a few lows at 70ish but I am attributing those to my pancreas being inconsistent.
