"A rice foundation. The Japanese diet includes huge amounts of rice -- six times more per person than the average American's diet, Moriyama tells WebMD. A small bowl is served with almost every meal, including breakfast. A low-fat, complex carbohydrate, rice helps fill you up on fewer calories, leaving less room in your belly for fattening foods like packaged cookies and pastries, which can contain heart-damaging trans fats. For extra health benefits, serve rice the Japanese way, cooked and eaten with no butter or oil."

"Delicious desserts. A typical Japanese dessert is an assortment of seasonal fruits, peeled, sliced, and arranged on a pretty plate, Moriyama says. People do enjoy Western desserts like ice cream and cakes, but they're usually offered in smaller portions and subtler flavors compared to the West. A cup of Japanese green tea is the perfect end to any meal."

It isn't the carbs, it's the total calorie intake. Japanese are much thinner and live much healthier lives than westerners. They don't omit fruit and rice. They simply eat low-calorie foods. They eat 25% fewer calories than us on average. They have smaller helpings of food.

I must say, I recommend keto to my aunt who has diabetes. Cause I see it has helped many with it. But most of us just need to learn how to eat 2 cookies n be satisfied

My cousin's husband recently sent me a message on facebook specifically asking for information on keto. That's really the only way I give any specific person any advice, is if they ask for it. Dieting and food are so personal, come with all kinds of emotional baggage, that negative comments and criticism on other people's choices is, in my mind, crossing a line that shouldn't be crossed.

I agree with Phil. What we choose to feed our bodies is the most basic and personal thing we do daily. However, all have an opinion on what works for them and I enjoy reading all the posts. You never know when a post gives you that “ah ha” moment! 🤗❤️

Chow I could not agree more, successful people that like their diet 👌🏼 Rock on. But if u pay attention most people that are binging(specially on the weekends) are binging on carbs 🤔 they can’t handle eating just one cookie 🍪 N this is why to tackle learning how to eat in moderation comes in handy 😏

Even though I have eliminated wheat and dairy from my diet, I still enjoy brown rice although it’s in much smaller amounts. It satisfies my carby tooth, lol. My rice cooker is probably one of my most used appliances. Thank you for the comment and link.

No problem, Murph, I appreciate all points of view. There's something to be learned, even if it doesn't fit our own perspective.

I have lowered my carbs but could never give up healthy carbs and fruits, it just doesn't work for me. I understand other people have great success with it, but for me if I'm eating healthier foods that fill me up, I'm not overeating junk and I can lose, maybe not super fast, but I will lose. I love my fruit too much to give it up completely.

I have always flavored my rice with chicken bouillon

For me that’s absolutely not true. I think it depends on a lot of things like hormones and your basic DNA. Some people are just programmed within this no matter what they eat. There are lots of overweight Japanese, but mostly what you see is very thin and mean people because they eat a lot of fish and healthy fats. Personally I can’t tolerate rice well it all makes me feel really awful and my stomach ache. I will not every day you can think of But the only one that seems to work is a low carbohydrate diet. After Breast cancer, I started on some medication to cause me to gain weight. I tried all sorts of things to lose it but unfortunately I’m forced to take this medication and I have to find something that works with it. The ketosis diet immediately took weight off of me and I was able to maintain the diet easily. The hard part is that I have many surgeries to go and every time I going to surgery I’m knocked out of ketosis. I would strongly suggest you do some research on what key ptosis does to people with epilepsy, which has been known since the 1920s. Also it works really really really well on the children with autism and a whole host of other issues with the body and mind so yes it is the carbs

Correlation does not equal causation, nor does the absence of a correlation disprove causation. Yes, the Japanese eat more carbs, but they also eat way more fish and have an Omega 3-6 ratio that's close to 1:1 which produces greater insulin sensitivity. Their overall diet makes them burn carbs more efficiently, in a way that doesn't exist in the American diet. And as for the low prevalence of disease, that is largely attributed to the fact that the Japanese consume 5 times as much flavanoids (antioxidant compounds) as Americans. Here are two good articles for further reading. https://peterattiamd.com/how-do-some-cultures-stay-lean-while-still-consuming-high-amounts-of-carbohydrates/ http://www.diet-i.com/japanese-diet.htm The fact is that most people do not possess the education or motivation to understand the complex mechanisms by which the body works, so we simplify things into little soundbites that are easy for the lay person to understand, like "eat fewer calories" or "cut out carbs", but that should never be taken to mean that everything really is that simple. You've obviously done a lot of reading into this and are trying to become an expert. Keep reading. You'll be surprised how much more there is to this.

Yep, correlation does not equal causation. Anti-carb folk won't accept metabolic ward studies or any other peer-reviewed science so I was trying a different method. Keep rolling with your hypotheses and youtube gurus and ignore the science. Everyone is unique...:P

Links are cut off here. Another youtube warrior probably using his Doctor status to impress and sell books full of misinformation. Better to ignore youtube doctors and stick to JISSN and NCBI. You know, actual scientific facts instead of hocus-pocus designed to keep dieters confused and to sell books.

I don't know how people find out about Fat secret but it sure attracts people that are duped into believing nonsense. Try Examine.com as well. Reddit fitness wiki is another amazing resource where fitness nerds have compiled great info backed by science.

Very interesting commentary here. 🤦🏻‍♀️

"These effects are likely due in part to reduced hunger and decreased ad libitum calorie intake common to low-carbohydrate diets"--This is key. So still doesn't dispute CICO but can help some people with the CI portion. I never disputed that.

Diablo, you're like a person who just learned algebra and so you think you know all the math there is. People are just trying to explain to you that something like calculus exists and you might want to look into it further before proclaiming yourself an expert in all things math. r/Fitness is a great resource, but it's also a closed hive-mind that falls into the same trap of thinking they know it all so there can't possibly be more to learn. As for those links in my previous post, it should be easy enough for you to google what you can see in them and find the relevant pages.

the main points of usual “LCHF diet” helps reduce hunger due to higher fat content & higher protein which already help control hunger as well as making people feel fuller. On top of that, greatly reduced carb intake helps lessen cravings over time for carbohydrates, also the majority of foods consumed that DO contribute to the diminished carb count in typical “LCHF” (keto can be considered one popular one) diets usually come from veggies which are very low in calories, usually high in water/fiber content, even helping more with not only fullness, (fiber is filling also) but water content as well, & as an added bonus helping a slight degree of staying hydrated. So all those factors work in unison by controlling hunger, lowering caloric intake daily/weekly (mostly due to significant drop in carb count) & keeping people feeling full from higher than usual protein & fat intake. so they’re less likely to binge/overeat, and/or consume higher caloric dense foods. With primary emphasis on whole nutritional dense foods & minimally processed foods, making people healthier physically/physiologically. So if you choose to do a LCHF diet, that is up to your needs, goals, dietary preferences, than by all means try it and see for yourself.
