I think women have a hard time losing weight because we get tired of thinking about food and have so many other things to think about but we end up having to focus on food because we are feeding other people.
I mean, the US culture basically says girls/women/moms/wives have to think about how they look and how well other people in the family are fed, so we basically have to think about food all of our lives.
When I was a child, my mom cooked and fed us healthy food and forbade us to drink the sodas or coffee and we had milk every meal except for soda, 1 glass!, on Sundays. No desserts all week, just on Sunday too.
Then as a teenager my mom went back to school and I ended up shopping and cooking for our family of six. Mom made the lists and menus, but I and a sibling cooked dinner 3 nights a week while mom was at night classes (she also worked full time). I didn't really watch my weight - I went to dance lessons, gymnastics lessons, hung out and walked with my friends on the weekends, and burnt up the calories continuously.
Moving to college, I ate at the cafetaria, but gained the freshman 15 because I just didn't get that I had to ask for half portions since the cafe workers just serve you the same as everyone else (even football players!) and there is dessert every day.
When I got a job, I was working outdoors 5 days a week, and living with friends and we cooked together. Meals for 4, with all of us sharing the work and having great company helped us eat healthy. I was in great shape then!
Moved to the city, worked, lived alone or with non-friends, eating became subs and pizza and too much coffee. I have a bad habit of staying up late that started when I lived alone and probably couldn't sleep from too much coffee all day.
When I started dating and married and then with kids, I pretty much was still in charge of the food. Shopping and planning and cooking for 4. After 34 years of cooking for more than one person, I have that habit as well.
Right now, living alone, I cook for 4 and divide up the meals but that is getting a little boring. I don't want to become the bird lady, but my pets do like to eat with me so one of my goals is to have my house so we eat together at the dinner table and I eat healthy enough that they can have some of my dinner which they try to take anyway no matter what I am eating.
But the point is, I have had to cook for other people for literally 40 years with few breaks. I don't really know if I can cook for one person in order to have a better variety of meals. I love to shop for food and end up with way too much of some things and then I get tired of them and they sit in my freezer.
So I have two goals this week on top of my calorie counts and exercise plan:
Clean off the dining room table so my pets and I can have sit down dinners at least a few times a week. And clean out the fridge some more so I can be less focused on calorie count and get that list of 1100-calories a day set up so I can move from training myself to eat right into practicing eating right and not checking in 4 or 5 times a day.
Happy Sunday all! Have a great day!

Sounds like a plan. Good luck!

I know what you mean. I don't think I would be bothered to cook so much if it was just me. I'd probably end up eating a lot of salads as they're easier to prepare. So well done planning out good meals for yourself.
