Sandy701's Journal, 06 Jul 12

No exercise walking for me today. A complete and utter washout of a morning...beginning at about 3:30 AM! My "early warning canine" went off then, so I knew we were in for storms. Sure enough, lightning, thunder and torrential downpours. It only stopped spitting on us shortly after noontime. By then, my "exercise window" had closed plus I'm not as well rested as I'd like.

I took advantage of the cooler temps though and took one of my dogs to the vet for her kennel cough vaccine, in preparation for boarding when we head off on vacation. My other dog got his taken care of when he went for his annual check-up a few weeks ago. Not sure exactly when our vacation will be. We have our reservations made, but DH's work is subject to a "surprise" inspection at that very same time and if it occurs, his vacation will be cancelled....in which case, we'll go next month, after rearranging everything, of course.

I took some time this morning and listened to a 42-minute video presentation by Dr. Eric Westman (of NANY fame). It was mostly an introduction to low-carb and why it's not more mainstream, but there were some interesting tidbits in it, so I'm glad I watched it. Anyone who might be interested in it....can be found on https://today.duke.edu/2012/01/science-and-practice-low-carb-diets#video

The video interview was done 1/19/2012.

Sometimes we need a rainy day, just to get stuff done (or to catch up on our beauty rest!).

PS - Bet you don't know how lucky you are to have that early warning system - LOL.

LOL at the "early warning canine"!! As Buffy said, sometimes you need a day to stay indoors and take a break from the regular routine. Hope things work out for your hubby and you can take your vacation as planned. Thanks for the link to the Dr. Westman video, I'll be sure to check it out!

Buffy, there's no mistaking so much trembling that it shakes the bed and wakes you up....poor baby. The drugs help her a little, but not as much as I'd like. I keep forgetting to accustom her to the Thundershirt....gotta do that when it's nice out and not in the middle of a storm.

Carol, it WAS nice to have a free day, in a way. I got a few things done but, of course, not nearly as much as I'd hoped. If you watch the Westman video, notice that he has his patients watch total carbs, not net....also has them stay very low on carbs for as long as possible. I'd loved to have been a fly on the wall when he, Volek, and Phinney were writing NANY, as they do have slightly different views of the Atkins plan. They're all committed to low-carb, no doubt about that, but they differ in the details slightly.

OK Sandy - I had to go look up Thundershirt. Does it work?

Hey you could send some of that rain to the midwest, we're beginning to look toasty everywhere :)

Buffy.....can't tell.....haven't worked on accustoming her to it. For some dogs, I definitely believe the Thundershirt (or an old t-shirt done up and secured on a dog) DOES work. Just don't know if she's one of those dogs. I've had it on her maybe twice, just for a brief time, but have a ways to go to be sure she sees this as something absolutely WONDERFUL, so much so that she can't WAIT to get it on because it always means great things. THEN we'll be ready to put it on her for storms.

Notfast, we had MORE than our share of rain yesterday, so, after sending some to my parched BIL, also in the Midwest, I'm sure I can send some out to you too!
