FarmerJeannine's Journal, 04 Apr 18

I usually fill in my food diary in the morning - having everything I plan to eat that day listed out helps to keep me on track. :) I'm going to the dentist today to get a broken filling fixed, so I'm holding off on everything except brekkie until I see what I'm allowed... HOPING for normal foods so I don't have to improvise - improvisation can be very dangerous for me! :)

One interesting note - I saw headlines today about a study that concluded that pasta was good for weight loss - after reading the article, I can see how they came to that conclusion... the subjects ate an average of 3.3 servings of pasta per week, at 1/2 cup of cooked pasta per serving. I like pasta, but I wonder how many people are going to stop at the headline and say, "Oh boy, as much pasta as I want!" We humans always seem to be trying to find ways around "Moderation in all things." I guess that's part of what makes us human. :)

I read that too, and I love pasta, so when I eat it I don't eat 1/2 cup, it's a big plate of it haha

I just found this journal entry you wrote this morning, Jeannine. Hope you didn't suffer too much at the hands of your dentist. I guess pasta would be a good food to eat when you need something easy to chew. When I ate pasta, it went down as if it were liquid & no matter how much I ate, it felt as if I hadn't eaten at all. But it tastes sooo good!

She's a good dentist, and I just have to avoid crunchy and chewy foods until the end of the month... I think I've managed to talk myself into a pasta night soon, though... I'll make sure I just eat that 1/2 cup, though and bulk it up with a little veggie burger and lots of veggies... and 2 teaspoons of parmesan! I used to eat a ton of that stuff, and when my brave husband risked getting his head bitten off by suggesting I use less, I would point at the side of the bottle and say, "Look, only 20 kcal per serving!" Of course, I just started measuring out that serving recently and was shocked to realize that I'd been eating way more than 20 kcall!!

Spaghetti, actually any pasta, is something I weigh out in grams or ounces. 1.5 —2 ounces dry is a good portion. That way my portions are consistent regardless of the shape of the pasta.

If people actually followed the serving size suggested on the labels they might be ok, but that's an awful tiny amount of food. They're supposed to be re-engineering nutrition labels for realistic sized portions. I know if I eat pasta you may as well boil your own because I'm going to try to scarf it all.

Yep, I started weighing the dry pasta before cooking it a couple of weeks ago - way safer than my old grab-a-handful-and-toss-it-in-the-pot method! :)

@Phil, That's the purpose for all the veggies; I can turn 1/2 cup of pasta into a huge, filling meal by adding a bunch of spinach, peppers, onions, etc. :)

I just dump shredded or grilled chicken in there with it. Actually, I don't, but I would. I just have the chicken, instead. lol
