DairyKing's Journal, 02 May 12

Set the alarm for 3:00; got up at 4:00. I must have been tired. Did 30 minutes on the eliptical, then a few 45-second planks and pushups to kick my upper body strength training back in gear. One of the great benefits of those planks is the good stretching it gives my back. I remember how the drill instructors, in the Army, used to get on the platform and lead us in our morning exercises. We would be dying in the "leaning rest" or plank position, and they seemed to be able to hold the position forever while we suffered. They weren't really in that much better shape than us, but they had learned the mind over matter techniques, and watching us suffer added fuel to their ability to endure. As time went on, I began to make them squirm as I matched them in their own game. The human body is much more capable than most of us give credit. We usually talk ourselves out of our ability to excel.

Just wanted to isolate myself for a little while last night. DW wasn't in the best of spirits, and it seemed like getting out of her space was a good idea at the time. She had an echo cardiogram (or something like that) yesterday. They told her they would forward the results to the doctor, but they did not hear any fluid in the lungs. I experimented with acrylics last night and turned another pen. What do you think?

you are a man of many talents. :-) So in the Army a plank is a rest? I knew I could never hack the military!

Jess, the "leaning rest" is the pushup position with the arms extended. The plank is the pushup position, supported on your elbows - obviously both with the body staight as a board, and on your toes. Those and the "extended leg raisers " on your back, were the killers. You spend 10 to 15 minutes in that leaning rest position, you want to hurt somebody. Hey, it's the Army, maybe that's why they did it! :)

What a beautiful pen. Very talented. I have to ask, what time do you go to bed if you're getting up this early? I'm done by 9 or 10 and I'm getting up just before 4.

Davidsmom: I get to bed by 10:00 on most nights. Bren, I have had about 10 hours of experience so far with the pens. And Ryan, "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis." :)

“His charm is so contagious, vaccines we’re created for it.” Gotta love the guy; would you believe he's 72 years old? “He has never learned from a mistake…because he has never made a Mistake. Mistakes are afraid of him ”

"We usually talk ourselves out of our ability to excel." So very true. I'm guilty myself... As for Dos Equis... BRING ON THE LIME!! The pen? BEAUTIFUL... blue ink and I'd use it... Happy Wednesday DK! Hope DW feels better!

Amazing pen. I wish I knew how you do that, DK. Thanks for sharing the info on planks in the military. I usually like mine, so I can catch my breath from all of the other exercise. Hope your wife feels better soon. Have a lovely day.

Wow D King...only 10 hours.. and you created a master piece...YOu could sell them and make a fortune..:O)

Ah, Bren, but that wouldn't be any fun anymore. :) I appreciate that you think it's a masterpiece. There is an awful lot of pen makers selling their wares online, and they are a lot better - and faster - at it than I am. Most hobbyists, that I communicate with online, tell me they're lucky to support their hobby. I just do it for fun, and I'm independently wealthy (in my mind), so I'm not worried about it. They make nice gifts just to let people know I'm thinking about them.

I think that pen is beautiful and you played very well with acrylics. Its good to hear there isnt any fluid in your wifes lungs. What a blessing. It tickles me a bit you call sleeping in 4am lol. Mind over matter. It really is isnt it. I just wished I had the conviction to believe it all the time. I love planks. Working hard in short spurts. My kind of workout.
