Sandy701's Journal, 03 Apr 12

3.1 miles walked yesterday (4/2)...1.5 with doggies and DH, the rest by myself. Easy-going day....moved some stuff to the storage building, sold a Craigslist item, and, best of all, DH made me my "Saturday" pancakes for breakfast! Also right on up there was a nice long chat with my sister.

I'm unsure of my exercise plan for today...I'm DH's chauffeur, as he's got an eye appointment today. I had planned on walking dogs when I got home from taking him to work, but we're having an unexpected thunderstorm that will set us back a couple hours, from the looks of it. By then, it may be too warm for the doggies, but we'll see how this all develops.

Dinner turned out to be at 9PM last night, so there was no chance of weight loss on an early-AM weigh-in.

The Focus & Commitment Challenge is making me "focus" (go figure!) on results. I'm realizing that if something is not working, not producing the results I want, then I've got to change SOMETHING....waiting around forever and merely wishing the results would happen, won't do it. So.....I'll continue to experiment after giving each little tweak a reasonable time to produce a result.

My current working theory is that my body has become w-a-y too settled in to the 3-mile walks I do and the same, general foods I eat, so I'm altering them a bit. I've had a bit more success when I've been swapping out a walk for XBox, or Stairmaster, or even, now, some light weights. Pretty soon, I should be able to add swimming, as the pool's up to 76 degrees naturally!

In talking with my sister, I told her that I know I could drop these last 10 pounds (or so), by doing something radical....not eating....calories in the 700-900 range....or something of the like. But I KNOW that will shut down my body and actually make it more difficult overall. Would I eventually drop those pounds utilizing those methods? Of course, but at what price? Those methods are not sustainable and not something I can do long-term. The whole point of doing Atkins, or similar low-carb WOEs, is that it IS long-term....it IS a WOE one can stay with for the rest of their life. I just have to find the way through these "last" pounds.

I am at the end also -- last 15 lbs and I am trying to really be patient. I am doing a push to get to within 10lbs before I go on vacation in early May -- I've added some running to my routine. I also need to remember to not over-do. It stresses my 50-something body and then it holds on tight to weight instead of letting it go. Trying to take the attitude that it will be - eventually. I don't plan to stop eating low-carb once I reach goal weight anyway. Wishing you the BEST:)

Thanks GigiP...we're at about the same age and I, too, can overdo things which turns out to be counterproductive! Definitely NOT like I was in my 20's or 30's! Good luck with your vacation push!

I agree - if you don't lose on a "sustainable" diet, the weight will just come back. Besides, I feel you are especially blessed with patience. May I have some.

Well Buffy, you would not have said that if you saw me over these last couple hours! Nothing to do with this WOE....just phone calls, telemarketers, deliveries, and a dog who decided to bark at EVERYTHING going by! Definitely did NOT show much patience amidst all that! But, hey, you're welcome to share whatever patience I can muster going forward!
